Anyone familiar w/the Orlando area?

We have our trip to FL booked for May, and 4 nights will be spent in Orlando. We are looking to rent a condo/vacation home (instead of a hotel) since we'll have the kids plus our two moms and need more room.

I'm on a vacation rental site and it lists a bunch of different areas of Orlando. Does anyone have recommendations for good vs. bad there?

Re: Anyone familiar w/the Orlando area?

  • I wouldnt be able to tell you which specific neighborhoods are good/bad but for the most part, the neighborhoods near Disney where you will find most of the vacation homes available for rent are all going to be in a nicer area.  I could be wrong, but I am guessing there would not be vacation home rentals in the 'bad' area's of Orlando (because most of those area's are not directly around Disney).

You're best bet is going to be reading reviews from people who have actually stayed at the house.  A very nice neighborhood can have a few bad houses/neighbors that could possibly ruin your trip (but the same can be said of renting a hotel room).

There are TONS of 'vacation clubs' that you can rent nightly too (Marriott, Hilton, Vistana, etc) - they are basically timeshares that rent out unoccuppied rooms.
  • We rented this home last fall and it was great. Close to the parks, well maintained and quite reasonable for four bedrooms, pool, etc.

  • We rented a house in the Windsor Hills community and it was great! The house was fantastic and the community was nice, had a great pool, awesome playground, and was gated. It was very close to the parks.

  • Thank you all for the info!  I'm finding some things also in the "Celebration" area - (is this a real city??)  Anyway, I wonder if that would be a decent location.

  • Celebration was actually a planned community designed by Disney. (they sold it several years ago) Celebration itself is nice and quite safe, and Disney still has office buildings there. But it's a stone's thrown to 192 and Kissimmee. The later aren't my favorite areas of Orlando.
