Random Poll

When do you do your dishes from dinner?

Re: Random Poll

  • I used to do to them right after dinner before Kiley and when she was way young. But then I stopped and did them the next morning, but Chris started to complain about dishes sitting in the sink, so now I do them after Kiley goes to bed. Here's my reasoning, instead of spending 10-14 loading dishwasher and washing ones in the sink that can't go in, I'd rather be spending that time as a family playing, etc. Chris doesn't get home till 7 most nights, so I like to use as much as that time as possible as a family.
  • I do them while the dogs eat... I unload when they eat breakfast, and I'll load small things, a cup or a plate, throughout the day. Then I load whatevers left over, and the dishes from dinner while they eat dinner. I toss in dessert bowls when I'm done and wash overnight. Repeat.

Since D works nights the middle of the day is when we all have together, so like you, Puggs, I don't want to waste that time cleaning anything.

  • I think I might die if I left my dishes until the next morning. I just can't handle it for some reason. I can't even leave something soaking overnight. Nick thinks I'm weird. The first 2 weeks after Campbell was born Nick convinced me to leave the dishes until the next morning when my mom would come over and I agreed b/c I just couldn't do it.

Since then, I've done them right after dinner, C is still in his high chair eating his "cookies" and we sing and I dance around and Nick goes to get himself one step closer to lung cancer (smoke a cigarette). If I'm not done by the time he comes back and washes his hands they go upstairs to wrestle/play on the bed until I come up to read with them and do bathtime. After he goes down I'll clean the stove, wipe down the counters, etc. but dishes need to be in the drying rack or dishwasher asap.

  • That was one of the things my bff told me after she had her daughter (she's a neat freak too) - she didn't want to waste time cleaning when she could be with her kid. So I always try to keep that in mind. Sometimes if I go to clean, it's because I need a break - lol.

  • Yeah, we're bad.  I kind of wait until the sink is almost full..unless the dishwasher is empty and then we put them right in.  L loads it incorrectly (probably on purpose) so he's not allowed to do it.  If I know people are coming over, I'll do the dishes.  I need to get better about that.

  • We generally do them right after dinner, or within an hour or so at the most.  Sometimes if it's a crockpot we'll let it cool down first and then fill with water to soak for a while.  But we'll definitley do it before bed. Occasionally if the dishwasher is full, we'll just rinse plates/cups and leave in the sink to load the next morning.  But pots/pans have to get done that night.
  • Right after dinner.  Whoever cooks usually doesn't have to do dishes.  And now that we're getting a new dishwasher, hopefully DH won't be all pissy about how its loaded.  He is so picky sometimes, lol!
  • If it were my responsibility seriously my sink would often have dishes sitting there waiting to be placed in the dishwasher, dh is super OCD about it and can't sleep until they are all taken care of.
  • I try to do them after dinner but if not I will do them the next day while I am cooking dinner. Andrew will do them some nights but his theory is to put everything into the dishwasher.

  • If we cooked dinner that night I wash them right after. We only cook a few times a week and eat leftovers the other night. On those leftover nights I tend to leave the dishes a day or two. I hand wash all my dishes so that takes me a bit longer than just loading the dishwasher, but now that I have to wash my pump parts anyways, I tend to pretty religiously wash the dishes once a day at least.

  • I like to do them right after dinner. I get the waiting to do them if you have kids though and don't want to miss out on time together.
