Well be there 4 days/3 nights, are staying at Aria (thanks to your great, older posts that I found) and although DH has been there a few times with guys, I've never been.
I plan on buying tickets to O today because we want to make sure we see it. Any tips I should know about for buying show tickets in advance? We're also interested in seeing Penn & Teller, but more interested in getting a new deal for that one.
We're interested in good food and at least 1 date meal, as we're celebrating my 30th bday, Dh's new job, V-day and our last trip before a kid probably.
In the Fodor's guide it said that if you've been playing at a table for awhile you should walk up to the floorperson and ask if you're earned enough for any comps, otherwise you're less likely to get one. is that right?
Does anybody know the feeding times for the MGM lions?
What are your favorite things to do in Vegas?
I was going to make sure I see the sign, Bellagio, Venitian, the flamingos (i love them), volcano eruption. For maybe-dos I was thinking Pinball museum, titanic artifacts, gondola ride, mob experience, TI show and various animal things. Any thoughts on those?
TIA!!
Re: Vegas Recs Please - Activities/Food & ?s
We had an amazing dinner at Social House, which is the Crystals mall right outside Aria. There's no view or anything, but we did the chef's tasting menu and all the food was just fantastic.
In order to get comps you have to sign up for the casino's player's card. If you're at a table you give the dealer your card when you sit down and they can keep track of how much you play. I really wouldn't count on getting anything your first trip unless you're betting large hands. There have been times when my husband and I have played blackjack for 4 hours straight, but generally at the lowest minimum table there and never betting higher than $25/hand, and they don't really pay attention to us (which in a way is good because my hubs counts cards).
I found something online that said the lions are fed at 11:15 and 4:30, but who knows if that's right. Last time I went for Vegas I got a ginormous daquri in a yard glass and just stood there for an hour watching them and drinking. It was awesome. Even if they're not eating the trainers are constantly playing with them so it's not just like they're all sitting around sleeping. They also bring in different groups of lions every day.
My favorite things to do in Vegas are play blackjack, shop, eat good food, and hike. The hiking is gorgeous and very different than what I can see around Seattle.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

We went last week and stayed in Aria too. ditto pp about signing up for the player's card/membership where you are playing. But I will say that I think it is really hard to get anything comped in Vegas. I think you need to bet in the hundreds and lose more than 1K at least. not worth it for a comp imo unless you are high rollers anyways.
O is our fav Cirque show! We saw Ka and it was a snoozefest. You can get better seats if you call. I did see a special on Penn & Teller on travelzoo. We also saw Absinthe in front of Caesar's and it was AWESOME...like lol, tears running down your face funny. Very intimate and the acrobatics were amazing. But you have to be okay with adult humor and lots of profanity to enjoy it. It is relatively new so you can just stop by outside the day you want to see it. They pass out $20 off coupons and you can book right there. No ticketmaster fees!
Our nice dinner was at Sage in Aria. I found it overpriced and underwhelming. Mesa Grill was nice for lunch.
We just got back from Las Vegas two weeks ago and saw both O and Penn and Teller. I had wanted I buy discounted tickets for Penn and Teller but found out that the discounted tickets were for the higher levels of seating, which my fianc? was against. Both shows were awesome! I would personally call the Bellagio directly when making your O reservations as they can provide you with several options for your price range which isn't as easy to do on their website. If you wait around a bit after the Penn and Teller show you will have an opportunity to meet and take photos with both.
In terms of dining, we ate at several great restaurants but we had two of the most incredible meals of our lives at L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon (MGM) and at Le Cirque (Bellagio).
Sorry for the quick reply without much elaboration, but for restaurants we love -
Delmonico
Mesa Grill
Craftsteak
BLT Burger (low key - burgers and shakes)
Local chiming in...all great suggestions and the MGM Lion exhibit was closed 01.31.
Were there recently and loved Olives, Mesa Grill and Tao for dinner. Ate at Emeril's Sportsbook at Palazzo and Serendipity for lunch and thought they were decent.
We loved Beatles LOVE at Mirage and even the Celine Dion show at Caesars.
Thanks for the additional restaurant recs!
Oh, thanks for letting me know - all the info is still up on the hotel website!
how cold does it feel at night? Will a long, thin jacket be okay or do I still need a winter coat?
If you feel like having a mega-splurge of a meal, Joel Robuchon at MGM.
AMAZING.
Be sure to request the complimentary limo to/from dinner.
