I'm having one of "those" days/weeks.
Yesterday, we had a family party for one of my nieces. Gabby was sleeping and one of my grandmothers kept sneeking over to try to wake her up so she could hold her (I told her that the baby needed her sleep so no one could hold her until she got her nap). Well, when she did wake up, it was about 15 minutes before my other grandmother was going to leave. Now, the grandmother who was trying to wake her sees her no less than 2 times a week. The other grandmother barely ever sees her. So, when I saw it was almost time for her to leave when the baby woke up, I handed Gabby to her (the grandmother that barely sees her.) WELL, my other grandmother (the one who was trying to wake her) got all huffy & puffy and yelled at me from across the room saying "ANGELA, I wanted to hold her !!!!!" as I was handing her to my other grandmother. I got so pissed I actually snapped back "You get to see her several times a week, this is only the 3rd time since she was born that my other grandmother has seen her !" She got all huffy & puffy again and was like " Pfft, well, I'll just see her tomorrow then". Fine, whatever. Just don't give me sh!t when I want my other grandmother (who never sees her) to hold her. 90 years old or not, I have no tolerance for someone being rude & selfish.
Now onto my brother/sister-in-law. Now, I guess I shouldn't have said that I am too surprised but I just can't stand people who have $$ throwing it in the faces of those that don't. I also don't like it when they use a different situation as a front for bragging. This is the same person who has serious attention issues. Examples: Sending out her "will you be my bridesmaid?" cards the day before my engagement party (even though her wedding was practically 2 years away), trying to get people to go shopping for her bridesmaids dresses the day before my shower (her wedding was still over a year away),openly telling people that I was not "allowed" to be pregnant during her wedding, then scheduled our fittings to be (no lie) the same day I got back from our HM. Anyways, so, yesterday at the family party, they couldn't stand how the attantion wasn't on them (& was on the babies instead) so they whipped out their laptop and booked a vacation for them & my parents so they could brag about it. Then, they "voluenteered" their house to be the location of the next party on my mom's side. Now, most of my mother's side lives in the inner city and in apartments. These people will never even be able to afford a condo, let alone a house. But, since my brother/SIL have no tact, they want to use the party as a ruse to show off their house....and my mother fell for it. (They tried to do this with my baby shower but I saw right through them with how they couldn't stand not having any attention on them. ) They know that my mom's side would never just go up there to see the house...esp. with the distance. They did this (but to a lesser degree) to my dad's side last year and proceeded to "mention" to everyone how much this hutch or that table was. I'm happy that they are doing well but it just irks me to see them throw it into the faces of everyone (esp those of us that can't afford to spenk $4K on a friggin hutch). If you try to say something to them about toning it down, they get all defensive and try to "play the victum." It's also not like everyone/anyone else has "shown off" their houses/places (my grandparents still haven't seen our condo and it's been several years)...they just think they are "special" and like to brag.
Gosh, I wish we could choose our families !!!
Re: Annoyed with family (vent)
Gross.
I'm right with you on the grandma thing. Stuff like that drives me up the wall.
And as for the brother/SIL: each time they brag about money, I'd just be a bi.tch to them about it. "Oh, we spend 4K on a hutch!!" "Oh, really? How dumb are you? That 4K COULD HAVE been a cruise!!!"
I don't mind when people have money, but there are just some things to me that aren't worth it. I would have a really hard time hiding the eye roll a 4,000 hutch would bring on.
Your brother and sis in law remind me of my SIL who thinks her wealthy aunt is buying them a plane.
She also fails to understand why I keep declining her offer for me to spend thousands of my own dollars to go with her and my nephew on a Disney cruise. Or why I would rather spend that money on an ADULTS ONLY trip to an all-inclusive resort, or somewhere in Europe.
And I'd be mad at your grandma too. That's pretty crummy behavior.
Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
I have no advice, just empathizing with your crummy situation. I don't like a lot of my family either.
*hug*
Oh, that just reminds me of my SIL even more. She is trying to get us all to go away for my brother's 30th next May. She can't seem to understand why people don't want to spend the $800 per person on the house rental & also use their only vacation time on him. Yaaaaa, I'm going to use my only week I can take off in the summer to go spend with boring @ss people, spend practically $1k and not even be able to see my kid for a week (also, finding someone to watch her). Get real.
