I gotta say...

I'm usually all about no gifts etc. on Valentines. Just like the post below. We stopped doing V-day gifts the year we were engaged to save for the wedding, then the house, then the baby etc etc. DH does sweet things for me all year long, but this morning waking up to a gift and cards and then getting flowers delivered. It was a very nice surprise :) I'm going to forget about the monetary value and just appreciate being showered. I had a rough day yesterday with the passing of my aunt so this brings a smile

It's great you are thinking of it this way. And I think it's wonderful he did that for you. I am not all about gifts and such either, but this made me smile too!! :)

I apologized to dh last night for giving him a hard time about spending money yesterday. When my flowers and other goodies arrived today I just enjoyed them and forgot about the money aspect. It really is nice to be appreciated. :)

     So sorry about your aunt!

  • I'm sorry about your aunt.

I agree with the others.  Sometimes it's nice to be appreciated.  Presents aren't always needed and often it's nice to spend the money on other things.  But every once in awhile, a surprise or token of appreciation is great for brightening up your day!

  • Thanks. She and I were very close and I'm so glad I got down to NC/SC in Sept so she could meet Caroline. This was very sudden and unexpected. She is my fav aunt and my fav uncle (her husband) died 4 years ago so it's just stirring all of that up again too.

Our romantic day kept going. We had to go fill out the paperwork and pay for our new living room furniture so on the way home we were hungry and rather come home and make dinner late we grabbed Pizza Hut. Romantic huh? It was a nice family night out with all of the other families LOL

  • So sorry to hear about your Aunt, Meg.  :-(

Tim has been out of town for most of the last week and half and won't be coming home until Saturday.  We skyped tonight and surprised me with a a homemade card from Abby and a card/spa gift certificate.  I feel a bit guilty thinking that I had a few extra days to get him something.  oops.  His card was spot on and got me all teary eyed. "I gotta say" it sure does feel nice to feel appreciated!

  • Sorry about your aunt.

And yay for being appreciated and surprised with gifts.  We decided on no gifts this year but I stuck a couple of DH's favorite chocolates in his lunch and he gave me cadbury mini eggs.  Can you tell the way to our hearts?  It's hard to say absolutely no gifts on a day that has come to stand for telling loved ones how much we care about them.  I'm sure when we're in a different place financially the $0.50 gifts will still be just as much appreciated as the elaborate surprises.
