Grammy thread?

Seriously, the Grammys had their second highest ratings with 39 million, and there's no thread.

I was really happy for Adele, and Jennifer Hudson was amazing.

In case you didn't see, Adele won all six Grammys she was nominated for: Record, Song, and Album of the Year, Pop Vocal, album, and one other that eludes me.

Re: Grammy thread?

  • I also loved Adele and Jennifer Hudson's performances. I think L.L. Cool J did an amazing job considering the gap between mourning and celebrating he had to bridge. I also enjoyed Glen Campbell. Dead Mouse was the strangest think I have ever seen. I enjoyed Rhianna and Cold Play too.
  • I think LL was a great host, but I love him so much that I wouldn't have expected otherwise. He could've done it shirtless and made me even happier ;)

I adore Adele and I'm thrilled for her. She deserved everything she got and her performance was wonderful. I thought the tribute to Whitney was appropriate. It was simple and straight-forward, not overly produced with lots of flash. I'm indifferent to Jennifer Hudson, but certainly don't think she did a poor job on the song.

The dance portion that was a supposed tribute to Don Cornelius was ridiculous. Don Cornelius was rolling over in his grave yelling "THAT'S my tribute?! you assholes!" I thought that mouse dude was going to give me nightmares and figured I should probably sign up for AARP, 'cause it was all noise to me.

I loved Dave Grohl's acceptance speech with his subtle jabs at the over-produced idols today who rely on auto-tune instead of talent. In that vein, I hate Taylor Swift and was annoyed every time she appeared on my screen.

The numerous artists with repeat performances was a bit of a let down for me. I would've liked to have seen Gaga perform rather than a second bit from Paul McCartney (I know, I know, he's a legend).

I loved The Civil Wars and had never heard of them before, so I appreciate the show for introducing me to them.

Nicki Minaj looked ridiculous and her performance was terrible. I think she was disrespectful and disgusting. But I imagine that was part of her goal - piss people off and they talk about you even more.

  • Oh, and it's shameful to me that Chris Brown is still getting fame, fortune, and recognition. I was pissed off to see him once, let alone twice AND winning an award. I used lots of expletives on Twitter last night.

I agree that was probably her goal - I thought her performance trying too hard to be edgy and controversial.  The whole pissing people off using religious images has been done before in better performances (IMO).

I thought that the Katy Perry song was interesting.  Seemed like a bit of an eff you to Russell Brand.

  • The only thing I really have to add is how disappointed I was that there wasn't a more significant Amy Winehouse tribute. If Chris Brown can sing twice, surely someone could have sung Rehab for Amy. I thought it was BS really.
  • I can't believe nobody knows Deadmau5. I thought he was awesome!! Everything else to me was boring....

  • Up until this year, I hadn't watched the Grammy's in a long time. I mostly watched for Adele and the Foo Fighter's. I was so happy she won all the awards she was nominated for. I loved Dave Grohl's acceptance speech.

I did however have a huge issue with Chris Brown being allowed to perform. Did everyone forget that he beat the snot out of Rihanna just a few years ago? Not okay IMO.

  • I am super late! But...

    1. Adele is amazing. I love her music and her personality. Very happy for her.

    2. J. Hud did a great job... but I did think it was kinda weird how "they" gave her "Whitney hair." Still, it was beautiful and understated as they promised and I thought it was lovely.

    3. Rihanna is really really hot IMO. (Mostly in the dress she had on for red carpet. omg)

    4. Katy Perry- performance a big "screw you" to Russell?

    5. LL- still pretty yummy.

  • I'm glad you said that she had "Whitney hair."  I thought that maybe I was just imagining that.  For a moment, I was freaked out because I thought it was Whitney... didn't know if it was going to be an old performance of hers.  I think it would've been neat for a tribute if they just would've shown her performances of I Will Always Love You and the national anthem.  I also thought it'd be cool if they had intro'ed a few of the segments with Whitney receiving her Grammys.  They do things like that at the Oscars to good effect.

It's a shame that Winehouse was an afterthought...

L.L. Cool J is so darn likeable.  I remember hearing him when I was a kid singing "I Need Love."

I love Adele.  I am so happy she won six Grammys, and I listen to songs from 21 all the time.
