Just curious, do you guys have to quarantine the kitties when coming back to the states?

Re: *Brangela*

  • No, thank God!  I think I would have a nervous breakdown if I had to do that.  I'm already stressed out enough about the trip, I don't think I could handle them being quarantined.  We just have to make sure they have all their shots and other paperwork on hand so that customs can clear them.

My biggest worry with the trip is that my boy is too big to fly in the cabin so he has to go in cargo.  We had planned for my girl to go cargo too, so that they could at least be in the same area and see and hear each other.  But, the plane from Dulles to Kansas is too small and will only allow one pet in cargo.  So we would have to transfer my girl from a hard case to a soft case to move her from cargo to cabin while at customs in Dulles.  We didn't want to risk her getting scared in the airport during the transfer, so we are having her ride in the cabin with us the whole way while my boy is in cargo.  I've read way too many airline reports of lost pets and they warn against opening the kennels in unfamiliar areas and at the airports.  So we are going to avoid the risk and have our girl go with us in the cabin the whole way, and our boy fly in cargo.

It makes me nervous just thinking about it and breaks my heart that they are going to be apart from each other.  They have only been apart for about an hour of their lives and they were not happy about it.  Either way, it is going to be a really tough trip for DH.  I will be 33 weeks pregnant and we will have to deal with our 2 cats and all the bags on a 16+ hour trip...ugh.

Sorry, that got long and babbly (?)!  I'm not sure if any of it even made sense.  I get anxious just thinking about it!

  • Oh my god, that sounds like a lot to deal with! Good luck!
  • Agreed.  I know you still have time before the move, but good luck with everything.  I'm sure the kitties will be fine, but I completely understand where you are coming from.

  • That made me cringe just reading it. I'm hoping the kitties sleep through the whole thing and you don't have to deal with any stress. It must be nice to know you're headed home soon.

  • Thanks ladies!  We are excited to be moving home and closer to family.  I just can't wait until we are on the other end and the kitties are safe and I can relax!
