Mirena question...TMI

Hello! I am in need of some advice. I got Mirena in August and was told that over time I would either stop having my period or it would become very light. That statement is true but I have had a lot of what I would call "spotting" but it lasts for a couple of days, at times tends to be like a period, and happens almost every other week. As if that isnt weird enough, it is also very brown and has a grain-y (?) appearance. I have NO idea what is going on, what is causing this, or what I should do. I know everyone is going to tell me to go to the dr. which I plan on making an appointment next week, but I was hoping for some advice to get me by until then. I hope you all have some helpful advice/information.

TIA!

Re: Mirena question...TMI

  • I had this for around 4 months although I think I remember up to six is normal.  If it doesn't stop in the next month or two, I'd follow up with your dr.
  • I think this can be normal. I have a friend who had this for 2 years and when they took it out it was imbedded in her uterine wall. Ask your doctor to do an ultrasound to look at your Mirena. Just to make sure it is not eroding into the wall.
  • brown is dried blood.  The texture is the same sometimes too.  I have that between periods sometimes and i do not have an IUD.  I would just call your Dr.  dont have to go in just call and talk to a nurse and they will let you know.
  • I had this too when I had Mirena, completely normal and should dissipate after 6 months or so.
