Valentine's Day

This was on the Providence Journal web-site this morning.  I wonder if he had to buy a bus ticket for the bear.

Jason Lucas of Woonsocket stops on his way from Kennedy Plaza to Fountain Street in Providence to take the Megabus to New Jersey to give this giant stuffed bear to his girlfriend on Valentine's Day.

Re: Valentine's Day

  • I would seriously WTF that. LIke, what am I supposed to do with a life sized stuffed teddy bear as a grown woman? Or is he dating a 12 year old?

Mr. Winged told me that he wasn't going to get me flowers this year since our current place didn't have a vase, but he'd get me some when we got back home. I was fine with that. It's sweet, but not necessary.

But last night he came home with flowers, chocolates and two baby names books and it was so sweet and I realized I do like flowers on valentines day dammit.

  • I'd be tempted to burn the bear but I don't think it would fit in our fireplace.

I was skyping with Fran this morning and he told me Valentine's Day would have to wait until he gets home next week.  I would have liked flowers, but the man did take care of everything at home last weekend while preparing for a big trip so I can't complain!

  • Well, I hope he makes up for it with extra awesomeness next week.

    How is your back?

  • huge stuffed animals as valentines for adult women make me cringe. and i'll be honest, i've received one or two bears/puppies from my husband. and all of them now are property of my daughter. because stuffed animals are for little kids.

on the radio they've been really advertising the shiiit out of the vermont teddy bear company's 4 foot tall teddy bear. that stupidshit is $100 DOLLARS.

  • Awe, good job Mr. Winged!  My H brought me flowers last night, we went out for a nice dinner, and he ordered a glass of the wine I like, so that I could have a sip.

I would not be too happy if I got a bear of that size.  Where the hell would you keep it?

  • My back is a little bit better, but not great.  It felt OK when I got up, but after taking out the trash and getting Ian and out of the car it was a little stiff.  One of my friends is coming over tomorrow night to cook us dinner and keep me company.  She's going to spend the night so that should be a help.
  • That's one huge bear. I'll tell you a story of my most awkward valentines day. My ex-bf left one of those awkwardly large greeting cards and flowers on my car at work. He also included song lyrics printed on a homemade scroll :|  the awkwardly large card is still a joke with my bffs. Poor guy.

Im trying really hard not to eat the candy I bought for T.

  • I imagine him showing up at her office with that. Ew.

Mr M apparently forgot that I'm allergic to azaleas. And that I hate them. And that they get really big. Luckily I'm allergic to azaleas.

  • When people talk about the fact "size matters", they aren't talking about stuffed animals.  I would not want that shizz.

I consider my gift the fact that Mr. Spiderman is spending all his time in the basement working on the renovation while I do jackshit sitting in our bedroom watching TV.

  • My worst valentine was the guy in HS who was BFFs with the guy I was dating. He left a single red rose w/a card addressed to "Nicole Kidman" (because he apparently thought I looked like her or something even though that's not even remotely close) and wrote all this info in there about how I was with the wrong one of them, etc. etc. It was super creepy.

  • Somehow I got suckered into cooking salmon dinner tonight. I was kinda hoping to be taken out for some French food or something. It's our first Valentine's day being married, so I guess my expectations were a bit higher than usual. Arg, I'm too easy on DH. Well, the dude better at least come home with some chocolate or I am withholding sex. hahaha!

I can't complain about previous Valentine's Days, I gotta say my exes all did pretty well. Even the jerks! DH is usually on point too....cept for this year! lol.

  • I think my H's gift to me is to not pick up a hooker in Vegas (or an engineer passing as a Hooker in a floral cardigan in the hotel). My gift is picking him up at the airport at midnight. We lack the romance gene.

I have class. Then, we'll probably watch The Biggest Loser and Parenthood, but I"m sure we'll do it romantically.

Tomorrow, we'll pick up half priced candy. That's our v-day tradition.

  • Ha! At first, I thought you were saying I don't have class because of my stripper joke.

  • I was considering our fun evening out on Saturday to be our pre v-day celebration. Then J mentioned that he bought me a gift. God damnit. I wanted to escape without gifts but now I have to find something for him. Ugh. As far as tonight, I think I'm just going to pick up something good for dinner like lamb chops or shrimp.

  • Did you know "Happy Valentine's Day" sounds exactly like "I'm leaving on Tuesday" when someone wakes you up at 5:30 to say goodbye?

Also, "Where are you going Tuesday?" is a weird response to "Happy Valentine's Day."

  • I would be mortified to get a stuffed animal. Such a waste of $20. $40? I have no idea what something like that costs.

I broke down and bought P a Wii last night. And it felt really awesome. Usually I get his something useful, like a coffee maker or clothes, so a completely frivilous gift was totally fun. I don't have any idea if he got me anything, since we're going to Puerto Rico in EIGHT DAYS and have scaled back our spending this month. But he is notorious for getting me super awesome gifts like my dslr camera, so it's hard to say.

    We have the same tradition.

Tonight I'm cooking steak, and he usually brings home a couple bottles of wine that are nicer than we usually buy, so we'll drink that while we watch tv and fold laundry.

  • Is it totally wrong to tell your guy you don't like a gift? Like, what if he got you jewelry that's not really your style and you want something else?...

Depends. Depends on how proud of himself he seemed when giving it to you I guess. B always says I can return stuff. I don't because it's usually stuff I like. Every now and again its not my favorite but he's usually very proud of his pick. It's just not that big of a deal because it's never something I really dislike. But if you would never wear it, I guess you could come up with some crazy reason why you'd want to exchange it. It's just a hard convo to start.
