1. The other night I was making a meatloaf and my mom grabs a wad of
RAW hamburger, balled it up and sprinkled salt on it and ate it.
I
totally forgot she does this. She's eaten raw hamburger for years and has never gotten sick from it...surprisingly. So gross.
2. My dad was just telling me that when my mom had me she was only able to take 9 days off before returning to work. She didn't have maternity leave at her job and apparently there was no FMLA back then and they needed the money. I couldn't even imagine going back so soon and I guess I can't really complain about "only" having 10 weeks off.
Re: My Mom-Two Random Things
The raw meat thing is gross.
It would suck to go back to work after 9 days. Sadly it still happens, since FMLA doesn't apply to everyone and it doesn't help if you need your paycheck.
That siggy pic is the cutest thing ever! I have a special love for argyle sweaters.
The raw hamburger thing reminds me of the show "Freaky Eaters" where the guy lives off raw meat. No thanks.
I'm feeling your pain about going back to work. I would have given a lot to have 10 weeks. I was back to work after 6.
Guess I'm in the minority- a good, fresh steak tartare is one of my favorite things on the planet. There's a place in Mandeville that makes an AMAZING one! That being said, I probably wouldn't be chomping down on a package of burger meat from the grocery store.
As far as the going back to work after nine days, I can't imagine! I'm thankful I've been able to be a SAHM thus far, and my hat goes off to all the working mamas out there, you guys are some bad ass chicks for being able to work so hard during the day and come home to love up on your babes in the evenings. Nothing but respect, and I hope to follow in your examples when I rejoin the working world.

You aren't totally in the minority! My ex is Lebanese and his family made some amazing kibbe. I never thought I would eat raw meat, but that dish was so good.
My family is Lebanese and my grandmother use to taste the raw lamb for the correct seasonings when she was making meat pies or kibbe. Ick!
The Grill Room's "Steak n Cheese" beef carpaccio with a pillow of fried goat cheese is one of my absolute favorite indulgences downtown. That raw beef is heavenly. A handful of good ol' 90% fat free from Hannafords though, barf-tastic. That is weird.
I also can't imagine only having a little over a week. I mean, you are barely coherent both from all the giving birth stuff to not knowing which way is up with a new baby. Two thumbs up for your mom for making it work, because, damn, that's nuts.
