2) Tokyo
3) Tie--Geneva and Osaka
5) Oslo
6) Paris
7) Sidney

10) Frankfurt

17) Tie--London, Brussels, and Wellington

47) Tie--NYC and Chicago

I'm off to look for the full updated list.

Publius' reaction: if NYC is that much less expensive than Geneva maybe I should give it a second thought as a possible place to go if we ever move back to the US.

Re: Zurich now world's costliest city

  • I have this prejudice that NYC is soooooo expensive no way could I ever afford to live there, yet I live in London so perhaps my thinking makes no sense.

Also a bit shocked London is only tied for 17.

We used to go to London for shopping trips when we lived in Geneva because it seemed so cheap to us.  I guess it's all relative.

  • Wow, I'm really surprised that London is at #17.  It's ridiculously expensive here...for us at least.

  • Yowza! Would never had guessed how expensive Australia was. And that was one of our relocation choices (well, Canberra...).

  • The saving grace for living in Zurich for us was the pay was relative to the cost of living. I got paid more then double to babysit there. DH makes more salary there then here. Chicago is expensive for us too but we lived a more comfortable financial life in Zurich compared to Chicago now.

  • I'm surprised! I thought London would be higher on the list. We just did a weekend there and I was slightly turned off at how expensive everything was. I would think that if Paris was that high on the list that London would feel almost cheap in comparison. In all fairness, I do live in the suburbs of Paris and not in Paris proper. Also, I swear Brussels is cheaper than London. AND I have no idea where Wellington is :)

    idea where Wellington is :)
    New Zealand :)

Well all I know is the salaries we get here are a LOT less than what we made in London, but our cost of living is SO SO high - mainly housing & groceries

but oh well, it is what it is

  • Sad the only solace we had for the ridiculous prices in Oslo was that it was our most expensive badge. I'll just have to wait for Another study that calculates it in whatever way puts us back on top. Wink
