I am confused. My guidebook (Lonely Planet) says it's closed on Mondays, but I don't see anything about it on the website's hours. Per the website it looks like you can visit the church any day of the week? It looks like it's even available to buy tickets on Easter Sunday if we wanted?
Does anyone know or can you confirm? TIA
Re: Sagrada Familia - Barca
Hmm I'm not sure it would be a good idea to go on Easter Sunday unless you want to go to service. I also assume you wouldn't be able to walk around compared to any other day.
I swear the day we originally tried going was a Monday, and it was open. The only thing I remember being surprised by was that it closed at 6pm (since it was October) and one of our guide books said hours changed in November.
I know a lot of museums are closed in Europe on Mondays, but I *think* Sagrada Familia is okay. Are there any other days you can go?
Yes. I'm now worrying about our decision to go to Barcelona over Easter wknd...I just think we'll have to plan accordingly and carefully with potential Easter closings and Monday closures;
Our flight lands at 1:30pm on Good Friday, so we're planning that we won't be checked in until at least 4pm (trying to be conservative).
And our flight departs at 1pm on Tues, 4/10; so I think Saturday may be a big squeeze day to fit things in that may be closed Easter and Mon?

You'll see these yellow ATM-looking machines that say "ServiCaixa" around town. You can buy tickets for Sagrada Familia there and it will give you a choice of dates/ times to enter. When we got there, the line was huge. MH got in line and I tried to buy tix at the machine across the street, but all the entrance times were 3 hours out and we were certain it would be faster to wait in line. The line did move fast so it was okay.
The one thing they really don't make clear at the ticket booths is that if you want to go up into the elevators you must buy the ticket when you buy your entrance ticket. MH had been there in the early 90s and thought we could still walk up the stairs into the spires, but those are no longer an option. The elevators are the only way up now.
Something else that you may want to consider is that they don't take credit cards. They only accept cash. We didn't realize this until we had waited in the long line and got to the ticket booth. Luckily, there was an ATM across the street and security allowed us to jump back in line once we had the cash.
No matter what, it's a definite must-see. We are not that religious and were still just spellbound.
We're just trying to prebook as much as possible for our trip to hopefully minimize lines; and maybe save a few bucks since it seems like the euro is rising.
Plus like pp's said; it does seem like the lines here get lengthy

When are you going?
We didn't book tickets before we went, but I'm pretty sure late October is their off-season. We had no issues getting in
The line was long, but went by pretty fast.
OP, don't worry about being in Barcelona during Easter because honestly, if things are going to be closed, I feel like you would have encountered that throughout Europe. I'd be more worried if you were in southern Spain where Semana Santa is huge, but even then, it's a cool experience being there as well.

I'll be there next week. We are meeting up with friends and haven't yet planned what day we'd be going to see the Sagrada stuff. (We're going to the BFC on Sunday and meeting up with my family from Italy on that day, so Sunday is out.) It would be Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
