I hate to admit, but I think I am done with this show for next season. I think it may be one of the most scripted reality shows out there. There is just no way that Peyton would decide to dance at mediocre Candy Apples in Ohio, when there are probably closer, better dance studios.
I really loved Paige's dance. I hope that she can start to get more solos. She did so good! I also found it interesting that they didn't show how Nia, McKenzie, or Maddie placed. There was so much pressure for McKenzie to be on top of the pyramid, and they didn't even show her place!
Also, I found the whole costume thing beyond fake. If Abby was actually taking them to a competition right out of NYC, she would not be okay with having cheap homemade dance costumes. She herself has stated earlier how much importance is on the costumes if the dancers are all talented.
I guess I am just getting very frustrated with this show, but still want to love it.
Re: Dance Moms
I agree I have not watched last night?s episode because it was getting on my nerves. Also, the whole dance competition world strikes me as scummy like pageants and nothing but a big scam. My friend?s daughter is a competitive dancer and told me about how it is basically a money maker. There are tons of companies that host these competitions and when you say you are going to Nationals it is a national completion for that company, of which there are many so it is not like one company holds one national completion. Starbound, the company you see most on Dance Moms, has 5 or 6 national competitions each year around the country. Additionally, you only need to place in one regional for a company to qualify for one of their many national competitions. Each dancer is required to pay to compete in their number. So the studio where my friend?s daughter takes classes you are paying for the classes, along with the entry fees for each dance the child participates in, and costumes. These companies are making mad money.
I haven't watched this weeks episode yet since I have to wait until they put it online. However, I did find all of the girls full solos from this week on youtube.

I'm still hooked on this show. It must be scripted, though. There's no way Peyton would want to dance for Candy Apples.
I'm glad Paige placed. She's a good dancer and doesn't get the credit she deserves.
Very very true.
And the bolded part... pretty much everyone places. So, everyone gets to go to "Nationals" and also, everyone gets to pay to go to "Nationals" In this day and age where evey kid wins and gets a trophy, dance is no different. Everyone places in something. I have always thought they were a scam. And knowing what I do about them, they cost a ton of money. All so your kid can dance on stage.
Just FYI, not all dance competition teams are like Dance Moms. DD goes to a dance school that does competitions (dd is not on their team - they take 5 classes per week!), and there are some that are really legit. Their goal is to connect with people/the audience via the art of dance. The girls (and boy) work really hard and are great. A lot of competition teams also do a lot of charity work - something that Abbey does not do.
FYI, there IS a lot of "stealing talent" in the dance world. It has happened to DD's junior teacher when she was competiting. And they aren't even subtle.
But - - - I know Dance Moms is scripted. Please.
Being involved in the Pittsburgh dance community for years I can guarantee there are better studios than Candy Apples in the area without leaving the state. Completely scripted for the show - no question.
So is Abby?s studio as great as she says on TV he he. I laughed when one of the moms was saying Abby?s contract could result in her child being black balled forever and something about a 100 grand penalty. What a joke why would you ever sign something like that except to talk about it on TV lol.
My dd is a dance in a "performance group" - they do one competition a year and do a lot of community activities (fairs, nursing homes, etc.). The older dancers perform at more competitions and are in all day on Saturday. I have to say, the girls on Dance Moms are amazing dancers. Watching a rehearsal with dd's school - and they are good - they are nothing like Chloe, Maddie, and NO 7 year old can dance like MacKenzie!
From DD's last year, I can say that other people will approach and try to "poach" dancers. The top dancer at DD's school (who won an award for "talent to look out for" or something similar) had people come up to her and say "you'd look great in a pink jacket" (or whatever color jacket their school wore). Also they gave a congeniality prize at the end of the evening. DD's school doesn't always win the dance prize, but they have soooooooo many congeniality prizes!
Honestly they are very good and always have been. Are they hands down the greatest studio in the city? Nah. But is she really like she's portrayed on the show? Absolutely!
