Lack of soda = exhaustion?
So recently I've cut out soda in an effort to be healthier. I always drank diet soda so it's not really the calories I was worried about. Anyway, I've been doing well this week, but all week I have been ridiculously tired during the day. I still have a cup of coffee in the morning, but then I generally drank a 20 oz bottle of soda (I think that's how big it was) each day around lunch time and early afternoon. Could dropping the soda really cause me to be this tired? Maybe I was kidding myself when I thought I wasn't drinking it for the caffeine
Re: Lack of soda = exhaustion?
Wow! You were drinking that daily?
I don't think it was the caffeine, I think it might have been the sugar. One 20 oz soda- non diet-has about 60mg of caffeine. While the sugar levels are in the 20's g per serving and there are technically 2.5 servings in that 20oz bottle. I don't have a soda in front of me so I can't really say the exact amount of sugar. But a good rule of thumb is to divide the total number of sugars (under the carbs tab) by 4. That will give you the number of teaspoons you are consuming per serving. I found that this helped me a lot more than just saying " oh it has 20 g of sugar".
Hope that helps! Stay strong as giving up something that's been part of daily lifestyle is tough. I bet you money the next time you take a sip of soda all you will taste is the sugar.
edit note-- to add words i left off to a sentence.
It could be withdrawal symptoms. If you are used to getting caffeine in the early afternoon, that could be a rough time for you now - maybe have some green tea in the afternoon to help get you over the change.
Give it a few more days and drink plenty of water to help flush your system. You have made a big change, so give you body some time to adjust. When I make a major change I usually try to take extra good care of myself during the transition (get extra sleep, plenty of water, good food) to help combat some of the discomfort.
I don't think it's the sugar since I only ever drank diet soda... It probably is just my body adjusting to less caffeine. Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to be more patient, and maybe I'll try to work in a bit more sleep the next few nights as well.
You didn't have sugar, you had artificial chemical crap that wreaks havoc on your system.
Try drinking some tea or coffee in the early afternoon if you need the caffeine. 2 cups a day won't kill you
I gave up Dr pepper & started drinking coffee.. I use one splenda type sugar (bc thats what I have at work - @ home I use stevia). I also have about 5 boxes of various kinds of tea to drink. It's a hard habit to kick, that's for sure!
