2012 Broad Street

Anyone else running this year?  I just registered this morning. I've never ran the Broad Street before, and I'm really looking forward to it.  From what I've heard,  it sounds fun...well, as fun as 10 miles can be.

Re: 2012 Broad Street

  • I ran last year and it was such a great experience.  I had never run farther than a 10K before the BSR, but I did okay (even with an IT band injury that didn't allow for any running the entire month leading up to the race)!  Crowd support is fabulous and hopefully the weather will be great again this year.  I wish I could run, but becoming PG really took away all cardio ability for me - I stopped running in late November and there's no way I'd be able to catch up to the point where I'd be confident in running 10 miles at 24ish weeks PG.

    Good luck in your training!

  • I wasn't going to do it, but a friend signed me up. It is a great race, esp. if you've never done a long-distance one before. The atmosphere is great.

I'm less than enthusiastic b/c I just haven't been that *into* running lately. Maybe that will change with daylight savings and being able to run after work :)

  • What's the deal with headphones?  Do people run with music?  I'm really worried about running without my ipod nano.

  • I hate running, so I never do it, but I just wanted to say that my FB was blowing up today with people complaining about how ridiculously long it took for them to register online

    GL to everyone doing it!

Everyone runs with music- don't worry!

  • The registration problems *should* be fixed.

I am not a runner, but I do work for the organization that puts the run together, and usually work the expo where people go to pick up their numbers, etc. I may take the kiddo down to be in the Diaper Derby this year too. GL to all the runners!

  • Registered on Tuesday, when a limited number of registrations were available for IBX insurance customers (I am so grateful for that opportunity).  This will be my fourth year running BSR. It is one of the best ways to see/experience the city of Philadelphia.  I would say that the race is a good item for a Philadelphia bucket list.

I saw a number of people post that the registration time was LONGER (between computer errors and server time-outs) than it would have actually take them to run the race.   I think that it commendable that the BSR is admitting to the problems and responding to criticisms on their FB page.

It also is the same day as the Sly Fox Goat Races, so the mr and I run the race, then go watch the goats run.

eta: I have never run a race with music--I have found that it inhibits my pace and does not allow for me to run my best race.  And, there's no way in hell that I'd run one of my trail races with music, it's too dangerous.  The only time I ever listen to music is on the treadmill b/c I cannot stand to listen to the person next to me talking.

  • I registered.  It took about 2 hours for the registration to go through.  I ran it last year and enjoyed it.  I am worried this year since I haven't ran since the fall.  I am planning on starting running next week.  We shall see how it goes.

The run is great.  The crowds are awesome.  It is a lot of fun.

  • I signed up this year.  I ran it 4 years ago when it was on my birthday (it is always my birthday weekend).  It really was a lot of fun.

I havent really run since then and am starting to train this week.  Hopefully in 10 weeks, I can run 10 miles.  I even signed my DH up to run as well.  It will be his first time doing it.

And I totally wear my ipod.
