Well, two of the "tame" ferals are going back to the bridge...

Apparently two of the cats are not adjusting well at all. They aren't getting along with the other cats, they aren't letting anyone touch them, and they're just really, really freaked out. The shelter contact thinks (and I regretfully agree) that they should be released back at the bridge. They're fixed, so I'll be picking them up tomorrow and taking them back. It's disappointing, but I know they'll be fine. Boo.

Just thought I'd update. :)

    But hey - they're fixed!

Agreed, that's a bummer, I was really rooting for a happy family ending for them. But at least they're fixed :)

  • Daw, poor kitties! If only they knew a nice, warm, always well fed home awaited them at the end of their stay at the shelter.  Maybe an intervention would help.

  • At least they had a chance, and at least now they're fixed. You still get an A for effort! :o)

  • Bummer! Do you think the shelter environment is too stressful? J and SB aren't feral, but they didn't do well at all in the shelter when we tried to get them adopted. Once we got them back here, they were all lovey with us.

I have no idea. One I really didn't think would work out, but the other one--I had hopes. I might bring the one home with me and foster to see if that helps. If it doesn't I can always drop him off at the bridge later.

    DH might kill me.

But I'm too exhausted and stressed out to care! Weeeee!

  • Aww, I'm sorry that it didn't work out.  Do you think both of them being together makes it harder for them to assimilate to the shelter?  Just a random question from someone who knows nothing about cats, especially ferals.

You are awesome for taking care of these babies, btw!

They weren't kenneled together, so I don't think that was it. I don't know though.

I dropped them both back at the bridge today. I saw what they meant when they went to load them--Licorice, the one I thought might do well in foster, freaked out anytime they opened the cage and let him out. In the cage, he was okay. I don't know.

When I let them out at the bridge, Licorice rubbed all over me, let me pet him, and then ran off to be with the other cats. I think he's happier there.

Stinking kitties, making me love them and not letting me put them in homes! lol
