HIMYM 2/13 *sp*

Really? Really?!? I cannot believe the way the episode ended with Ted & Robin.

Angry

Although I am glad that Kevin is gone. He always just seemed so temporary in the show, it was odd.

Re: HIMYM 2/13 *sp*

  • did Kevin and Robin ever even sleep together?  i'm glad she was honest with him though and that he was honest with himself that he wanted kids instead of dragging out an engagement.

but Ted's a fvccking moron, seriously.

I assume they have slept together. It was insinuated with going to the bed and breakfast and sleeping in the same room. I too am glad Kevin was honest. Better to make it hurt now than the alternative. I don't know where the writers are going, but she has always been Aunt Robin to the kids so it obviously won't last.

  • I think it was just a moment of weakness on Ted's part. He was probably feeling down about being alone on V-day and just blurted it out. I doubt anything will come from it.

Like PP said, she's referred to as Aunt Robin so we know she's not the mother.

  • They're just wasting time - I've been feeling "meh" about this show for a while now but I can't stop watching because I want to know how it goes.
  • Eh, I didn't take the ending to mean that he was saying I *love* you. I took it more in a "i love you as a friend and I'm here for you" kind of thing.

I don't think it was a romantic thing at all, but I could be wrong.

  • I took it as romantic and earnest. I think this is the solution to the problem Victoria ( baker, is that her name?) presented. I think Robin is going to shut him down cold, or they will have a brief fling that ends with finality so that the door closes for good. This does stick with Ted's character though. Mr. romantic wants to save the damsel in distress.
  • Also, I really like the idea of a player for the player Barney. The way Quinn was portrayed as a gold digger at the end;)
  • I have defended this show all season, and I've still enjoyed it--even the slow episodes. But when Ted said that to Robin, I wanted to punch him in the kidneys. WTF, Ted. No! No, no no! Ugh.

    All of this.

We know they aren't going to end up together, and even though it fits his character to do something like this, I was really frustrated!

Love how Quinn was introduced, and I think Barney may have met his match. I REALLY hope she is the one he marries. And I was happy to see some storyline development, FINALLY! Unfortunately, that means next week will probably be another filler episode, then maybe the birth of baby Erikson the following week???

    Same here.

At least Robin & Kevin are over. Those two had ZERO chemistry.

I enjoyed this too. Especially because I love Becki Newton. Except that the whole episode I thought her name was Gwen, not Quinn. What is with the upswing of girls named Quinn?

Overall the episode was just ok, I did like the Lily/Marshall stuff. I was also annoyed when Ted told Robin he loved her.  I didn't really think about the Victoria angle, that could very well be where its headed.

  • Here is a scary thought I had:

What if all this is leading up to just him meeting his children's biomother?

It is called how i met your mother. Meaning he could still end up with Robin but his children will have a biomom.  I know they call her Aunt Robin, but this show is just dragging on and I could totally see them pulling something dumb like this at this point for the shock factor.

My DVR said next week is new.  The synopsis said something like Ted rocks Robin with a personal declaration.  Barney tries to find dirt on Marshall and Lily.

I'm so mad at the writers for this show.  I want to sit them down and make them re-watch the first three seasons.  I do like Becki Newton though.  This whole season feels like it's been a Robin sadfest.  Her and Kevin didn't have any chemistry anyway and she never seemed super into him...The proposal just seemed like an easy way for the writers to write him off the show..

Agreed. Ted is so desperate for love that he thinks he'll be willing to give up kids just for the sake of having a compatible mate like Robin. He's giving up on the chase because it's faster to just settle for a girl that makes him comfortable, rather than a girl who wants what he wants.

I'm hoping Robin shuts him down FAST. If she turned down a proposal from Kevin (a guy who, all things considered, she didn't even know all that well) because she didn't want to take away his chances of being a father, then there's no way in hell that she'll want to take away fatherhood from Ted who's done nothing BUT blather on and on ever since she's known him about wanting to be a father. Hopefully this is the kick in the ass that Robin needs to move out of Ted's apartment and focus on her career, like Season One Robin.

With some of the crap they've been pulling lately in the name of being "shocking" (like Robin's fake children in the Christmas episode), I can totally see them doing this as a last-ditch effort for a juicy finale. Maybe they'll refer back to that scene in season 2 (I think?) where Robin says, "I don't ever want to have babies, but if I did I'd want them to be your babies." *gag*

But I think that would piss off a ton of viewers and I *really* hope they don't go this route. I don't mind one final attempt on Ted's part to get with Robin, but I think they really need to close the book on Robin so that Ted can finally move on and find the right girl. Hopefully this will be the situation that Victoria was talking about, where Ted won't be able to find The One until he completely puts his romantic relationship with Robin behind him. It's Sweeps time for television, so if the show's going to do some big shake-ups then it'll all probably be happening in the next few episodes.

Well, we know it won't work out because Ted's got kids. I'm not letting myself get too squicked out about it, it'll just be another "Gawd why is Ted so stupid!?!?" plot line.

I'm interested to see what they're going to do with the golddigger and Barney though.

Could be but  I doubt it.  In previous episodes ( like the one where he meets the mother's roomate), they go to great lengths to show how much the Mother and Ted have in common, how they dated and how his job at the univeristy led to him meeting his future wife and how happy she makes him.  Now if the wife dies and he remarries Robin ?  Maybe, but I would hate it if they ended the show like that.

or like in the movie Defintely, Maybe. now that someone mentioned it I could see it going that way. (no spoilers)

  • I was like "WTF?" too. My opinion is that they are hoping to get one more season out of the show next year so I think they are going to resolve all the back stories. Lilly and Marshall will have their baby, We'll finally find out who Barney marries (Robin?) and if it's not Robin, we will find out what happens to Robin (does she get some big journalist job w/ CNN?). Then next season will focus on Ted meeting the mother and maybe showing some of the early relationship that leads up to a proposal.

Since Robin can't have children, I don't see how she and Ted can wind up together unless the writers do some stupid thing where Robin has some special surgery or he's telling the kids the story of how he met their biological surrogate mother. That would be stupid and I really don't think the writers would do something like that.

I'm guessing that next Monday (or whenever they actually show a new episode) they will straighten out the whole Robin/Ted thing. I'm hoping they are just milking another season.

  • They've been guaranteed a Season Eight for a while now.

  • Maybe I'm WAAAAYYY offf... Are the kids he's talking to his kids? or are they someone elses... He always calls them "kids" does he ever call them son/daughter.

he always says "your mom" does he say "my wife"

I know that is a huge stretch--- and I am re-watching all the seasons now--- but maybe they are like Barney's kids- and he is talking about how he met their mom.

Are we sure he is narrating about his wife, to his kids?

I know I'm really stretching for this one.. but I love this show and I find myself more and more getting annoyed and bored with it!

  • And. I just realized someone above said this and someone else had a good rebuttle...

I also think Karma was a great Stripper Name!

I think if Robin and Ted hook up again- it will be the fling the causes Robin to finally leave- bringing back Victoria's statement that Robin and them wont work...

I know I'm really stretching for this one.. but I love this show and I find myself more and more getting annoyed and bored with it!

I know the kids have referred to him as "Dad" a few times in earlier seasons.

And there was an episode called Lucky Penny in season 2 (or 3?), where Ted was supposed to interview in Chicago for an architecture job but wound up missing the flight and losing the job opportunity. The Future Ted voiceover told the kids, "I'm glad I missed the flight and stayed in New York, because otherwise I wouldn't have met your mother." And the voiceover comes over a shot of Ted at his own wedding.

So unless the writers/producers have a gigantic trick up their sleeves, I think that pretty much confirms that Ted marries The Mother and the children are biologically theirs. And I don't have a link, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading an interview with one of the creators where he flat-out states that Robin is not The Mother, and that it's not going to be some kind of twist ending with the children being adopted or coming from a surrogate mother or something. And they've had the series finale/identity of The Mother in their minds since the beginning of the series, so they're not just going to make it up on the fly.

Of course, they're kind of floundering around for ideas now and they've pulled some stunts in a few episodes (like Robin talking to her and Barney's imaginary children in this season's Christmas episode) so I guess anything is possible.

    image
  • I think Ted telling Robin he loves her was actually him being honest, but definitely feeling lonely on V-day. I don't think anything will come of it. I just hope Robin shoots him down quickly and they move on once and for all. A pp said she needs to move out and I agree. They need space from each other to move on with their lives, which plays into what Victoria said about him and Robin and Barney.

I like Quinn and how Barney is smitten for her, and the twist at the end with her as a stripper. That'll be interesting to see how it plays out, but wouldn't it kind of make sense for Barney to wind up marrying a stripper? I love that her stage name is Karma. What goes around, comes around.

Lily and Marshall keeping score was funny. My husband and I do the same thing. I loved the flash forward to the middle of the night diaper change. "I hope you get a soupy douce!"

This was a better episode than past ones. The Ted and Robin thing made me face palm, but I felt like they were getting some of the good energy back with Ted and Barney on the drunk train.
