So I recently started seeing my gyno quite a bit because my cycles had become extremely irregular since going off of the BCP, but after several months of trying to get things regular, and her now diagnosing me with PCOS and prescribing me Metformin, my DH and I are thinking maybe in our best interests financially that I should go back to BCP. Can I take both Metformin and BCP? Is this normally done? I would appreciate any advice.
Re: Metformin and BCP's
I take both Metformin and BCPs, however my BCPs are for endometrios and of course birth control while my Metformin is part of my diabetes management. But yes, I do take both - - doctors never had a problem with me being on both (for years now).
FWIW, I take BCP - Yasmin, and Metformin ER 1,000mg
I'm on both as well, for insulin resistance control and my doctor also suspects I have PCOS though I've never been formally tested.. I would definitely suggest you go back on it, or at least on something-- because metformin and the resulting effects from it (possible weight loss and other changes in your body) can greatly increase your chances of getting pregnant. If there's one thing my doctor stressed, it's that many, many of his patients suddenly became fertile when they never were before between weight loss and being put on metformin.
