Protein packed snacks

Hi ladies, I need some more ideas for snacks. I used to have Luna bars for morning and afternoon snack.   But they can get a bit too sweet, so I changed it to a banana with peanut butter for morning snack and mixed nuts in the afternoons, 3pm. But that just makes me feel so hungry by 5pm. So I am now on a Luna bar, fruit with peanut butter, and mixed nut rotation.

Any more ideas? I do not do dairy or dairy like stuff. (It's mostly the taste that gets me, so even soy/almond milk makes me gag)

I was thinking of maybe some the cut up turkey cubes you see in the packaged lunch meat, but that's processed food and I try to stay away from that, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to that about 2 times a week, no?

Okay, I'm rambling now... TIA.

Re: Protein packed snacks

  • What about egg whites? (Hardboiled, peeled, throw the yokes away.) I also love ThinkThin nut and chocolate bars (protein + chocolate = yum!) You could dip an a cut up apple in peanut butter, veggies in hummus. A Green Monster/smoothie? (I happen to like the Odwalla ones.)

  • What about switching the Luna bar to a Luna Protein bar or Clif builder bar? They both have higher protein content and will keep you full longer.

    Other ideas:

    -apple with PB

    -Nuts/seeds

-Protein powder (in a smoothie, water, etc)

  • A personal trainer friend of mine swears by beef jerky.  I can't do it!  I love almonds and hard boiled eggs.

I started keeping beef jerky in my desk for my morning snack a few weeks ago. It's not the best tasting snack, but it is filling.

  • Chicken tenderloins or strips of chicken. I let them marinate for a few days in a ziploc bag with garlic, spices or herbs and then saute or broil them. I think they're good both hot and cold and make a good salad component.
  • I personally stay away from nitrates.(in processed meat and ham).  I also try to avoid the un-pronounceables in protein bars.

I just ate my 2 high protein waffles for breakfast and I eat it as fingerfood, dry.  But with 26g protein, that might be an idea.  You might have to keep it refrigerated until snack time.  At least they wil travel well.

  • Are you also getting enough water?  Sometimes thirst is disguised as hunger.
  • I love dry roasted edamame, which is crunchy and has a nutty flavor.  I'm a big fan of turkey and beef jerky.  Greek yogurt with a little honey is great too!

ETA:  Just noticed you don't like dairy - sorry about the greek yogurt rec!
