Broad Street/Philly runners

Did you get in? I got in, as did my husband. Mass hysteria! Reading IBX's FB page has been a trainwreck!

Re: Broad Street/Philly runners

  • Since my marathon is a few weeks after, I wasn't able to fit in my schedule again this year! But considering the crash of the site, I don't think I would have been able to waste all yesterday trying to sign up at work!
  • it took me 3 hours!! is this the last year that it's open w/out qualifying? i am not sure if that is a rumor or true.
  • My husband and I got in just under the gun after hours of trying.  This will be my fourth BSR and his first.  I said it last year, too, but I'm pretty sure this is going to be my last one...for awhile, at least.  I love the race but hate everything from the finish line after.  It's just a mess, and I'm always exhausted and in no mood to deal with it, lol.  Add in the registration nightmare and it just seems a lot less worth it these days.

That said, I fully recognize that the reason the race is so overcrowded and that the registration is this problematic is because of "new" runners like me...so I try to be grateful I got in at all and not complain (much.)

I wonder how they are going to revamp the registration process next year in response to this craziness?  An early opening (like, 5am instead of 10am) would have helped, but I just don't see anything short of a lottery helping a whole lot.

  • Oh, qualification...that would definitely make sense.  It would change the atmosphere at the race for sure.  And I probably wouldn't get in!
  • I got in but a few friends were not able to.  I clicked in the registration link at around 9:30 am (even though it said 10:00am) just to give it a try and it worked and I was able to register quickly.  If they don't change anything for next year then give that a try.

I have not read anything about being qualified for next year.  Did you see that in the paper or on their FB?

  • Since they opened up lottery for 2500 runners today, I'm wondering if they'll make the whole thing lottery next year.
  • My husband tried to register us but no such luck :( It was going to be our only race of the year so I was really looking forward to it.
  • I heard the qualify thing but only as chatter on the FB page. I know they strongly discourage walkers and will kick you off the course if you cannot finish in 15 minute miles, so maybe they will lower the time next year? I know people walk anyway so it probably won't matter. I never had to fill in my PR of the last two years on a registration before!

They are going to have to do something. I would bet a lottery will be the way they go. Or maybe raise registration fees to make it less affordable.

  • I registered on 2/14 as a Independence Blue Cross member so registration was really painless for me. This will be my third year running it. I have a feeling they are going to be making it a lottery next year....makes me sad because I love the race and will be so disappointed if I am unable to run it every year!

We were hoping to do this too but there was a limit on pre registration which I don't recall reading about in the email that was sent. My H and I got home on 2/14 at night excited to pre register and were surprised that it was full.
