Did you hear about this?

A little girl in NC was told by some state official that the lunch she brought from home was not healthy enough and was told to eat the chicken nuggets the school provided.

Here's the article

What do you think?

Re: Did you hear about this?

  • I think it's crazy. It's not like she had a sack full of candy. She had a turkey sandwich, chips, etc. That's a he!! of a lot better than what EX packs SD for lunch most days.

  • Really?  That's outrageous!  I'd be making this public to if I were the girl's mother.  And actually I think I'd prefer if my kid at a sandwich vs the chicken nuggets.  I'd be interested to hear what else was served with the chicken nuggets.  Was it something the child ate?  Doesn't make sense to completely starve the kid if she wasn't going to eat the school lunch.  Sorry I'm rambling but I think the government as intervened a little too much with this.

  • Another thing is that school lunches, when I was going to school, gave chips, juice etc etc.. as part of their lunches! As much as we need to be helping kids get what they need (i.e. if their lunches were complete crap...candy, chips, and donuts only, we should give them more nutritious food), we don't need to be playing Big Brother. It's over stepping and insulting.

  • That is ridiculous....to me, a turkey sandwich sounds better than breaded chicken nuggets any day. I think schools are overstepping their boundries...I was a picky kid and there is no way my lunches would have met their criteria. And if they made me take the school lunch instead, I wouldn't have eaten it if I didn't like it. So is starving any better?

  • How about its none of the govt's business what people want to feed their kids!! I would be outraged if I were her parents! I love my country but the govt is getting way too controlling and interfering with our human and constitutional rights.

  • That's just asinine. I could see making her buy lunch if she was eating something really unhealthy, but she had a turkey sandwich and a banana! Schools are getting out of control these days and exerting way too much authority over what kids can and can't do.

  • I heard this on the radio this morning and was livid for the mom.  How dare someone tell me what I can and cannot feed my child.  I think the government needs to get their nose out of our private business and start worrying about the bigger picture.  Let parent's decide what's right for their kids.

From what I read yesterday she only ate 4 nuggets b/c she didn't like anything else on the plate. How is that better than a turkey sandwich, chips & a banana?
