Book recommendation for runners/readers

I just finished a really good book called "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall- it's about a tribe of people in Mexico who are perhaps the most amazing endurance athletes in the world, as well as about the ultrarunning community. I'm only a casual runner but thought the book was fascinating, if anyone is looking for something to read!

Re: Book recommendation for runners/readers

  • Yeah, this book has been discussed multiple times in length on this board.

My opinion of the book was "eh"

  • Yeah, I liked Born to Run too.  I just finished reading another similar book called Running on Empty by Marshall Ulrich.  It's about Ulrich's transcontinental run and was pretty interesting.

    Oops, hadn't seen it discussed.

  • I'm hoping to make a slow transition to minimalist shoes after retraining my stride, so I currently am reading "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Barefoot Running" and "Chi Running."  If you are looking for fun narrative reads, can't help you there.

  • I really liked it as well, even though I didn't expect that I would. I was worried that it would be too focused on convincing people to run barefoot (because that was the main thing I had always heard about it), but I found the ultrarunning aspects really interesting.
