I'm looking for some creative thinking here ladies so put on your thinkin' caps.
Right now I'm in the first 6 weeks of my workout program. I work out 4 days/week; 2 Zumba classes and 2 days on the treadmill doing walking intervals for an hour.
My plan is to increase to 5 days/week after 6 weeks (it takes 6 weeks for something to become a habit) and my plan initially had been to start C25K at that time as well. However, I just don't feel ready for it yet and I don't want to start it when I don't feel ready.
Here's where I need the creative thinking. For weeks 7-12 I want to keep up with my hour stints on the treadmill (increasing my intervals each week and making it more difficult) but was thinking of trying to carry the weight that I've lost while I walk.Based on the way the weight has been coming off I'll be down about 22lbs by then. How could I go about "carrying" that with me without having to hold 22lbs of weights in my hands?
Ideas I had but am unsure of: bringing a bookbag and putting the weights in there or buying ankle and wrist weights (which I'd rather not do, SF and all [;0])
Any ideas?
Re: up in the gym just workin' on my fitness...
I'm thinking Ellie would dig a piggie back ride for an hour
I could put on some Yo Gabba Gabba in front of me to keep her entertained. Now how do we get her here 2x/week from Arkansas?
LOL she would think that a blast. I'll have her fuel up the jet.
This is the jet:
In seriousness, the only thing I can think of besides hand or ankle/wrist weights would be to get some of the medicine ball type weights, put them in a backpacks, and wear it.

Also, word to the wise - don't google "ball weights". What comes up is NOT what I posted above.
I'm not sure if you're going to the gym, but my gym has adjustable weight vests that you can put weights that look like big washers onto the pockets of... Like this:

Stand up for something you believe in.
I think wrist and ankle weights, and adding an incline to the treadmill.
Honestly, I think doing strength moves separately is the way to go. Hand weights, resistance bands, or medicine balls. It is the best way to boost your metabolism and strengthen the muscles you use when you do cardio.
Water just came out of my nose...thank you very much, lol!
I wish I had a jet like Ellie
I am doing the treadmill at the gym, I'll have to ask if they have something like this I can use. I just hate talking to the people who work at the gym, I feel like they're always trying to scam me into doing personal training or tanning or anything to give them even more money every month!
I already do various inclines while I walk but continue to increase them in order to not let my muscles get comfortable.
I plan on starting strength training when I start C25K; then I'll only be 20ish minutes on the treadmill and will have some more time to put into strength training. I also want to shed a few more lbs before I start actively building muscle, if that makes any sense. I love resistance bands, I swore by them when I worked out in college.
Late to the game, but ditto this.

Thank you ladies for all the suggestions and encouragement. The potential back strain is what had me leaning away from the backpack idea but couldn't think of any other way to carry that much weight without holding 20lbs of dumbells in my hands!
When I go to the gym next I'm going ask them if they have a vest and/or ankle&wrist weights that people can use. If they don't then I'll look at ebay or amazon or play it again sports or something so they won't be exceedingly expensive.
I would watch it with the weigh vest- from experience, you want your body to be able to adapt and react and adding the weight will help, but could also be putting extra stress on your body. (say you trip on a treadmill, that weight will pull you down much quicker) - I used to work at a gym and a gentleman broke his femur trying to react to a fall off a treadmill. Most of it was misfortune, however, it was pretty freaky.
I do cardio/weights separately but try to incorporate cardio even on muscle building exercises. Have you thought about walking with hand weights. Easier to manage and they even have some that strap around your hands. I recommend mixing up the cardio as well. I know it sounds cheesy but a jump rope, jumping jacks and even mountain climbers in intervals (2 minutes, 2 minutes, 2 minutes) will kick your booty and you dont even need to go to the gym!
