What do you pay for phone, internet and cable?
I'm looking to cut some expenses and feel like we overpay on these budget categories. I'm curious what everyone else has and how much it costs you.
Currently we have:
Cell Phone - US Cellular $70 (that's just for me. DH gets his phone for free through his work))
Cable/Internet- Time Warner $150 includes DVR & HD & WiFi
Home Phone-none
We also pay $15 for Netflix and $10 for Xbox Live
Re: What do you pay for phone, internet and cable?
Cell Phone $90 for the both of us
Cable (satellite) $70
Internet $40
Home phone $0 (we don't have one)
No netflix or xbox
Cell phone: $115 (3 lines, 2 with data)
Home: don't have
Cable: don't
Internet: $50 for higher high speed
Netflix: $8
Cell Phone- AT&T: We pay $170 for DH, myself (both iPhones w/ data plans) and both of my parents
Cable/Internet- Time Warner: $105 for DVR, HD and WiFi. (I used to pay close to $140, but called and told them I was going to switch to DirecTV unless they could offer a lower rate. After refusing their first few offers of $10 off per month, etc they transferred me to the "retention department" and I was eventually able to get it reduced by $30 a month for 2 years. I highly recommend calling!)
Home Phone: None
I get a 20% company discount on our already super cheap, 6+ year old Verizon cell plan for us both, so we pay around $62/month. That's for no data, no texting, and 400 shared minutes we never get through.
We have bare bones basic cable- no cable box, no DVR, 10 stations, no HD for our 12+ year old 25" tv- and then the lower speed high speed cable internet for around $54/month through Time Warner. We occasionally miss the DVR and more channels, but really, it's mostly crap and we shouldn't spend so much time in front of the TV anyway. We still have the 4 major networks, 2 PBS channels, and the fun horror movies on public access. The internet is fine for our normal browsing- streaming sucks and uploading to YouTube takes forever, and when we Skype with my parents, it's a little hiccupy. But still, cheap so we're happy.
Then we do the 2 in the mail Netflix for around $12/month which helps supplement our poor evening television choices and weekend entertainment.
We don't do home phone. So all in all, around $130 total per month.
Cell Phone - We got grandfathered into some amazing deal with the ILs. I think for the 5 of us it is like $100 so we don't pay any of it.
TV - $80 Dish with HD
Internet - $40 (tax deduction though!)
No home phone.
I forgot ours is tax deductible too...for DH's web design business!
Cell phone: $95. We have unlimited cell phone to cell phone talking, text, and data and 1500 anytime minutes to landlines. That is after the 15% discount we get through my old job (S print let me keep the discount even though I don't work there anymore) and after the $30 MH's work gives him towards his cell phone bill.
Cable/internet: Time Warner $110 including digitial cable, DVR, & HD. Our rate is on it's way up - it was $100 a few months ago, and I always call once it hits around $130-$140 and they lower it back down to $100 for at least six months.
No home phone
No netflix, etc.
We pay alittle under 70 a month for our cell phone (that includes 2 of us with 400 shared minutes and 200 text messages/month
Phone- no home phone
Internet 36 dollars per month from timewarner. I too, called multiple times and talked with them to lower my bill. Twice i got told 50 per month just internet and then the next time i called they lowered it 14 dollars more a month. It helps if you know what someone else is paying, and not taking no for an answer
Cable- We recently got rid of our Cable services through timewarner. I was sick of paying 100+ a month for stuff we really didn't watch anyways. I went down to basic cable but then got rid of it altogether. We did get an antenna tho, and still get the local channels and ABC, NBC, PBS from it. Its worked really well, and its free.. we do get Hulu tho that we stream into our Xbox 360 which is 7.99 a month. I can watch pretty much any tv show im interested in, and can watch all the episodes
we've saved a ton of money that way.
Thank you for this! I will be trying it tomorrow as we currently pay $50.
Cell phones- $90 total through US Cell. We used to pay $60 for both, but I asked for a fancy phone for Christmas so we added $30 of data.
Home phone-None
Cable- None
Hulu plus for our blu ray-$8/month We only watch a few shows so this works great for us.
Internet-$50
Too much!
satellite - was about $92, but I think it's going up another $6 next month
home phone & internet - $80
DH cell phone - $25
my cell phone - about $8 (pay $25 every 3 months)
Ok I'm definitely getting ripped off by US Cellular. I pay $70 just for me. No data plan or anything fancy like that. Just phone calls and a little texting (I think texting is $5 a month).
MH and I pay $96-$105/month for my iPhone and his dumb phone (we get a 20% discount for being an employee of CMMC)...
No home phone.
$35.95 for internet. They tried to bump it up on me last spring and I told them I'd be leaving to go to Oxford Networks if Road Runner was going to charge me $50 a month and they gave me another year at the introductory rate.
No cable.
Netflix for $20.
No cell phone.
No cable tv.
Home phone (unlimited calling) and internet for $96/mo.
No netflix or any extras. We do a redbox maybe every couple months.
What do we do without all this technology? Cook and eat. And exercise so we don't get too fat.
Wow! That does seem high. That is what my mom pays, but she has data and texting. Ours is so low because DH has a grandfathered plan. He has had the same plan for a really long time.
Cell Phone: $136 per month (2 phones both with data & texting)
Cable: None
Internet: $64.90 (Road Runner Turbo because of my business)
Home Phone: None
Netflix: $8 (only streaming, I think the DVDs are a complete and utter waste of money when Redbox is $1ish per night)
Internet and home phone bundle - Fairpoint - $86 to $89/mo
antenna TV - free
tracfones - usually $30 every 90 days ($60 every 90 for both)
netflix - $16? $14? we have streaming + 1 DVD + BluRay access
Cell: $45, but can vary. We have pay as you go phones - most often we recharge each phone every other month and it's $45 for 600 mins (texts are 0.30 mins each). Now that I mostly use Skype with my mom we only recharge my phone every 3 months.
TV: $55 for Dish HD
Internet: $70 through Comcast. I'm dying for something cheaper
Cell Phone - $70 for both DH and I through US Cellular. (though it typically runs closer to $80 with pay as you go texts).
Cable/Internet - $70 which I think is too much since we only have very basic cable
Home Phone - none
We don't do Netflix, etc. I will rent a couple of Redbox movies here and there depending on their selection and how busy our weekend is.
We pay about $60 a month for cell phone. That is for unlimited everything, 4 lines (both of ours and my in laws), all smart phones. and a home phone that works with the internet line, but is not through our ISP. Keep in mind though, that is a special rate for us, considering where hubby works
We pay about $60 a month for DirecTv and about $70 a month for Time Warner internet. TWC is a special rate through my work because I work from home. As of Jan 1, my work no longer provides it to us so they arranged the special rate (work used to pay for it).
Cell Phone $140 for both of us
Internet $39 for roadrunner through Time Warner
Cable & Home phone we don't have
we pay $8 for netflix, and my brother gave us his login for Hulu plus.
Cell Phone- $175 for both of our iPhones with lots of testing... but I am looking at it right now to see if it can go lower
No home phone
no cable
$40 for cable internet and $8 for netflix.
Cell Phone- AT&T $200 for 3 iphones with the middle data package (MIL is on our plan so she pays some of that)
Cable/Internet/Digital Phone- Time Warner- $150 includes one DVR and HD
Netflix- $16 because we do 1 movie at a time and streaming for the kids
We could probably get rid of the streaming since we have digital cable but I like watching it on my iphone while in the tub lol
