Disney which night would you do Character meal?

Trying to decide which day to do a character dinner. DH and I have never been so this is a whole new experience for us and I am trying to plan out as much as possible: It will be DH, myself and our 5.5 y/o DS in May

Mon- Magic Kingdom (be there at opening til 9 or 10???)

Tues- Animal kindgom pobably arrive late morning 10ish? stay til 4 or 5? (since I am assuming magic kingdom on monday will be a late night and we will be exhauseted). Is 10-4 enough time in animal kingdom??? Character dinner this day at 7:45????

Wed- Hollywood studios or Epoct...  Character dinner this day at 7:45 instead of Tues after AK???

Thurs- Hollywood or Epoct

Fri- we have 1 extra day to re-visit whichever park I am assuming it will be magic kindgom

I have planned everything according to when each day has parades, fireworks, and Extra magic hours I have heard those are the busiest days. We are staying off-property so we are avoiding those parks those particaular days. I am trying to decide which night to do the character dinner. Tues after Animal kindgom or Wed after Epcot or Hollywood studios....either way the reservation would be 7:45. I am thinking Tues may be better after Animal Kindgom???

Re: Disney which night would you do Character meal?

  • I have been to Disney a million times. There is no way your DS is going to last at the Magic Kingdom for 10 hours. Animal Kingdom does not need 6 hours. You are packing too much in. Your DS is going to be exhausted from all of this and so will you. Where are you staying? The hotels on property have amazing pools that your DS will want to swim in. Sorry I am not much help with the character dinner.
  • Agreed with PP. Don't try to overplan or cram too much in. 10 hours at Magic Kingdom is going to make for a very long day!

First, figure out which character meal you want. We knew our three year old would flip over getting to meet Special Agent Oso Huh?, and he  only appears at Hollywood&Vine at Hollywood Studios. So we planned breakfast there to kick the day off. I preferred to start the day with a character meal so we could just spend the rest of the time playing it by ear.

I love love love Park Hopper tickets! Epcot isn't a place where we like to spend a whole day. We'll do a half day there, usually after Animal Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom... if you plan to see the safari, the animals are most likely to be awake and active early in the morning. We were there at 8 am and stayed til 2, and we had plenty of time for everything.

We're not really scheduled people. We like to go and just see what happens. So much less stressful that worrying about being at a certain place to see a certain thing at a certain time.

  • I would definitely arrive at Animal Kingdom as close to opening as possible.  The animals are all out, before it gets too hot.  Head straight back to the safari, do that first.

I've done all day trips with my kids at the parks, they were younger, so still napping.  With their nap they did well.  Now that DD#1 isn't napping, she would definitely still get tired if she walked it.  Are you bringing a stroller or renting one?  That might help.

Where are you doing your character meal?  There is a great breakfast in the Contemporary hotel where you meet the standard Disney characters, that might be nice.  You might also tie the meal into whichever park you plan to have the meal in.  (Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom, Akershus at EPCOT - I have two daughters, so our trips are definitely geared towards princesses!)

    Have fun!

  • We spend the least time at Animal Kingdom, so if we're doing a special dinner, etc we usually plan for it to be on our AK day.

  • which character dinings are you looking at? you can book both for now and cancel before you go if you can't decide this instant.

we just went a few months ago and my dc is 5 and we did so much and spent entire days and nights at the parks. he was great and had such a ball. but just play it by ear, some kids can handle others can't i guess.

oh and when he fell asleep in his stroller, we just put a blanket over him and had mom and dad time and did the rides. they have kid sharing, where you can go up and one of you can go then come back and stay with the stroller than the other can go. it's great! but we actually didn't even need to use it that much b/c lines were so short during the extended hours nights.

Have a blast! we are disney addicts and go every year. We are getting the bug again and are planning the next one already.

  • oh and real quick some recs just in case you don't know about them.

I highly recommend signing your son up to the jedi training academy in hollywood studios. my son had a ball doing that, it was such an experience for him. He still talks about fighting darth vadar. but just make sure you get there as soon as the park opens, it books up very fast. we got there early and there were only the last two time slots open. so we waited all day for him to do it. it was so worth it and one of the highlights of our trip this year.

also the pirates league was a big hit with my 5 year old too.

    have fun!!!
