Lake Tahoe in April

H and I are going on vacation at the end of April as a combined my birthday/our anniversary trip (2 weeks apart) we have thrown around several ideas one being Lake Tahoe, Can anyone share what Tahoe is like in late April (I'm thinking mostly weather wise but anything else you want to share would be great too.)

Other ideas (in case you want to weigh in on those) have been Hawaii, NYC, Vegas/Sedona, San Diego, and also a smaller road trip through Chicago and up to MN and the Mall of America

Re: Lake Tahoe in April

  • It's the low season, or at least it was last year. Not enough snow to ski much (though there may be a few runs open here and there) and too cold to have the summer stuff going strong (boating, etc.)

My family got together there the end of April last year. Weather can be iffy. One day it was low 50s and very windy, the next day it was near 60 and sunny. We enjoyed it, because it wasn't very crowded and we had some nice downtime.

I wouldn't go to San Diego in April; the weather is too iffy then. I'd save that for fall. NYC would be nice, Vegas would still be reasonable temps, and I don't think there's a bad time to go to Hawaii ;)

Ditto what Dr. Loretta said--Lake Tahoe is unpredictable in April.  We haven't gotten much snow yet this year, so we're hoping to get some in March/April.  Last year you could still ski into early April...

I agree with her other comments as well--it will be too cold for the Lake/"summer activities"...and I wouldn't do SD, either, for the reasons listed.

Hawaii is an excellent idea--keep in mind that early April is spring break...Vegas is always a blast--I'm not as familiar with the East Coast so I can't comment as to NYC...

  • Ditto PP about everything, except Hawaii... April is still considered winter in Hawaii.... I was there last year and it was cooler than I expected it to be and it rained at least part of the day (not a warm rain) every day we were there! The warmest it got on our trip was 78, not my idea of bathingsuit weather, but I come from Cali where it is warmer!
