Catch 22- BR

A still naps, most days. The days he is at dc it could be about an hr-to an hr and a half at most. When home he can nap upto 3 hours. Once bedtime comes it is now taking him up to and hour and a half to fall asleep. I know as his mama he needs that nap.

On the days he skips nap at dc or if we are out he is exhausted and a grouch. He didn't sleep at dc yesterday and DH said he passed out on the couch at 7.

So do I keep letting him nap, maybe limit the time in exchange for a long bedtime. Or skip naps and get a cranky kid?!?! I'm at a loss. Lol

Oh and regardless of how much sleep or nap he is getting he is up  By 7 every morning. The Other night it was almost 10 by the time he fell asleep but was still up at 7

TIA

Re: Catch 22- BR

  • we are in a very similar position.  for a while sue wouldnt nap at all.  then she'd be a mess by 6/ 630pm.  or worse, i couldnt get in the car after 430 or she'd fall asleep.  with her no matter how late she goes down, or how much she naps- she wakes up at pretty much the same time.  which often makes day 2 post no-nap day miserable.  anyway, lately she will take a very late nap- like at 4pm.  and she is so tired that she would sleep forever. a couple of times she slept 3 hours like A and would be tossing, singing, asking to go potty, playing in her bed forever just like you say.  what seemed to work for us, is now- no matter when she naps (earlier or later in the day) i wake her up at the 2 hour mark.  she is sometimes groggy and even a little cranky when she wakes up but if she goes down at 4 sleeps until 6, she will still go to bed without issue around 830.  so my vote is to experiment with waking him up from his nap.  good luck!

  • Thanks. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I'm going to start limiting his naps on the weekends to 2 hours and see what happens. I always assumed he napped longer on the weekends cause he was making up for lost time during the week.

The only bad thing about a dragged out bed time is he has been climbing out of his crib :(  he used to just do it in the mornings. Time to shop for a bed I guess!
