Bad Doctor Reviews WWYD?

I needed my doctor's phone # for something and didn't have it so I googled her. Well, I accidently opened Yelp and found like 40 negative reviews about her. I was really shocked there would be so many. Most of them were about her lack of bedside manor - downright rude and insensitive- and her heavy reliance on computers to diagnose and prescribe medicine.

Here's the deal. I have been going to her since 1998. I've had a lot of random illnesses and she has helped me through them. But yeah.. she totally is not the most friendly person and she does in fact use tools to help her pick antibiodics etc. I guess I'm just used to it, but at the same time, a bit freaked out that so many people feel the need to speak out against her. She does tend to over-prescribe things.. but if she does that I just don't take it or if she refers me to a specialist, I don't go.

I've moved in the past year so she is like 45 min away from home, but only 15 min from work. Once we have kids, I'm not sure I want to go to someone who may be out of touch with a new mom etc. I am an extremely loyal person and have a hard time ending relationships...

 Would you switch doctors?

Re: Bad Doctor Reviews WWYD?

  • I would consider it only if it really bothers you, not based on those reviews. Some people are looking for a different kind of doctor relationship. However, if it is inconvient to use her due to distance, I feel that is much more valid excuse. Good luck!

  • Yes, but not because of the reviews.  To me, bedside manner is one of the most important things that I look for in a doctor.  I had a very bad experience once when a doctor essentially told me that no one would want to marry/have children with me because of a disorder that I have.

The looking things up would not bother me because every doctor looks dosages/interactions up.  I would rather someone look up these things than prescribe something incorrectly. Further, many drugs require that you look up past scripts in a database to protect against prescription abuse.

  • I'd base it on my experiences and not reviews.  Everyone likes different types of docs for different reasons.
