40 bags in 40 days

I've figured out one thing I'm going to do for Lent!

I saw last year the 40 bags in 40 days. Basically you make a list of 40 areas you want to purge items in.  I'm making a list of 40 areas to purge/organize/deep clean. One a day for the 40 days of lent--- which is really 46 days this year!

  • That's a great idea!

  • I LOVE this idea!!!  I really should do this.  Did you find it was easy enough to come up with 40 different places that you want to purge from???  I guess I would have to sit down and think about it a bit more...

  • 1) Am I just dumb that I don't get the "bags" part?
    2) Were you able to find 40 (or 46) areas? Please give us examples! I think this is a great idea! Our spare bedroom is really cluttered and I should really work on it...

  • The 'bags' part is that the idea is to clear out 40 spaces over the course of lent (or anytime) and trash, donate, sell the items you don't use/need/like/etc.  So the 'bags' are the trash or donate bags.
If you google '40 bags in 40 days' a lot of blogs come up who have done this. There are a lot of examples- one person had her kitchen listed 3 or 4 times because it was a large project and she allowed herself multiple days. I'm doing that for our playroom. You can make it as specific as you want and break it all down as much as you think necessary.  For me I have it separated to the following
my closet, my dresser, T's dresser, B's dresser, toy bin, toy bin, toy bin, main bath vanity, kids bathroom, master bath vanity, laundry room, pantry, fridge, desk, craft cupboard, movies, linen closet, front closet, guest room, baby items, craft area/items, car, truck, garage....  you get the idea :)

  • Alright... my goal is to clean/organize our spare bedroom by Easter! And while some people think "oh, that's just one room" it has so much stuff! The desk, for example, is very cluttered. It's one of those "organized chaos" type of things because I know where everything is but it doesn't look pretty.

Plus, there's wedding stuff I'm trying to sell.

And oodles of boxes from wedding gift appliances that I wanted to keep at least 3 months in case anything broke (i.e. the blender broke within the first month so I'm glad I had the box still).

Best of luck with your 40 bags/40 days goal, Mere!
