I'm going to start volunteering at the local humane society

It's so intense, though! I've already invested about 2 and a half hours in meeting. First you have to attend an info session. Then submit an application. Then be approved. Then attend the orientation. Then sign up online. Then watch a video. Then take a quiz and send it to the manager. Then get approved. Then start training. Then get X amount of hours. Then proceed to the next level of training.

It takes about 3 months to be a full volunteer...and that's after you watch the video and take the quiz. But I love this facility, I love what they stand for...it's a great place.

I might start my volunteering at a cat satellite place, because there's more of a need for it and I could get started quicker. Then after 3 months I can train for the dogs and do that as well.

This is all in addition to the training I'm going to be getting in a month when I foster newborn kittens...I'll feed them bottles and keep them at my house...my office will be the kitten nursery! I bottle raised Leopard and I can't wait to have bottle babies again!

  • Sounds like a lot of work, but I bet it will make you very happy!  Good for you!

It's an involved process, but SO worth it!

It really is worth it, because I get in-depth training on warnings signs that a dog will attack and all that...if I took all these classes on my own, it'd cost me a couple thousand dollars. They really teach you about mannerisms and such of the dogs, so it's not like I just pop right in and play with them. It'll be great to have that knowledge.

  • That's a really great thing to do, there's so many animals that need help.
  • You're my favorite Real Housewife of Cali EVER!  They should do a show about you and show a positive role model!

  • That's really awesome! I have thought about doing this more than once, but I would be so afraid of taking all the dogs home.

  • That's awesome!! I bet you'll really enjoy it.

Also, as a favor could you ask them to stop airing those horrible animal abuse commercials. Watching a cow get hit by some sort of tractor last night was a bit much.

I think that's awesome! I volunteer, but like you mentioned I just "pop right in and play". Being informed is really important, though. And it's nice that it's a thorough process.

  • Sounds like they really train their volunteers. I take that as a good sign!

I fostered pups that needed to be bottle fed at one point, and while it was stressful and challenging, it was also extremely rewarding. So excited for you!
