Hey I just wanted to make sure that you saw I had responded the the post where you paged me about running stores in Anchorage. I didn't see your post until several days later so I wasn't sure if you knew I had responded.

I'm not in Anchorage but I travel there frequently. Skinny Raven is a good one. They have a downtown location and I believe they also have one on Dimond Blvd in South Anchorage. You can google them for their website & directions to their stores.

Re: ::kat.in.the.hat::

  • I did see it - thank you!

    My aunt is interested in starting walking & running and wants to do the 5 miler that's with the Mayor's Marathon in June, so I sent her to Skinny Raven.  I'll have to check up and see if she went or not.

    Plus, it's useful to know in case we forget anything when we're up there in June too!

    Are you up in Wasilla?

  • Okay, good.

    Nope, I'm in Juneau which is about a 2 hour flight south of Anchorage.

  • oh doh!  you're far away then, haha!

    As many times as I've been and as long as my folks have lived up there, none of us have ever been to Juneau.  My parents have been all over the continuous state but I don't think they've ever made it to any of the islands or such.  I really want to go though, I've heard it's a totally different Alaskan experience.

  • It really is quite a bit different than the rest of the state. It always amazes me when I go to Anchorage how different it is. Anchorage is flatter and so much drier even though they are on the water - my skin goes bonkers every time I go. Because Anchorage is a larger city it gets a bad rap - most Alaskans will get their feathers all ruffled if you say you've been to Alaska but the only place you've gone is Anchorage. Those of us who live elsewhere don't believe that Anchorage is the "real" Alaska :).

    Juneau is VERY wet (we get more rain than Seattle) but if you come on a sunny day it will take your breath away. We're right on the water but with huge mountains and it's very green. I love it here. You should definintely try and make it down some day. You could always drive to Skagway and catch the ferry - that's a really fun experience. You get gorgeous views and you always see a ton of whales, porpoise and other wildlife.
