United/ Continental- WTH?

Has anyone else booked a trip with either of these airlines lately? We're booked on flights with them in May and they've changed flight times and flight numbers at least NINE times... I get that the merger has caused some stuff to change, but WTH??

Re: United/ Continental- WTH?

  • Yeah I've had issues too. I booked a flight to Aruba in December and one of our flights got cancelled so we missed a connection. Luckily since we booked through orbitz they took care of getting us on a different flight. I did buy trip insurance in case something happens or they cancel another flight. It's super frustrating!

  • It has been awful.  Our flights to Paris keep changing and on the website it dropped an entire leg of the trip (IAD-IAH) on the way home.  It is beyond frustrating.  I really miss Continental.

  • Yes. I can't wait for the merger to be complete. I had to fly from DC to Paris in a a 757 with no premium economy seats and no recognition of United FF status. Hate it.

  • I fly United/Continental almost every weekend from DEN-PHX. I've never had a problem with that segment, but had major problems with the flights I booked to Australia. I ended up having to cancel my reservation (I used miles) and book with ANZ to get to my wedding on time!

  • We booked them in Jan for our flights to and from Europe in Mar/April.  I'd be check on the status to be safe.

Do you receive emails everytime they make the changes?

  • You guys got me all nervous about our flight to Japan this summer, so I just went to check the times. The outbound flight was changed, but it's only been moved up 14 minutes. I can handle that! Cool

  • Our flights from Houston to Honolulu, Maui to San Fran to Houston. Changed 4 times over 6 months.

Finally our leg back to Houston went Maui to Kona to Chicago (3 hour layover) to Houston. It was horrible, the plane had the old time tvs. The front projector didn't work and flashed green the whole flight. During the 7.5 hour flight they ran out of meals and snacks by my row which was 25, our of 45 rows. Keep in mind this is meals that are sold, because they don't fed you anymore even on a 7.5 hour flight!

I think my loyalty to Continental has ended.

  • We flew them to Hawaii in October.  I booked the flights right as their transition was beginning.  It sucked.  They kept changing our flights and it was a mess.  But we got there and back okay.  I'll avoid booking them again anytime soon, though.
  • We flew Continental from Houston to San Jose back in November and had no problems. It was a direct flight though. We booked it 6 months in advance.

I am sorely annoyed at the mess with the FF program. I love how they sell it as a "good" thing by saying, "We messed up and didn't get the systems joined in time, so you can keep your status for a few extra months until the transition is done!" This ticks me off because I qualified for a higher status level this year, but I don't get to use it for the first three months.

And it just took me ages to get into the Star Alliance lounge at Heathrow, because I forgot that they haven't sent me a 2012 card and I forgot to print out my status, so all I have is my expired-in-January card. Ugh.

But as for the DC-Paris with no premium economy? I'm jokingly sticking my tongue out at you Stick out tongue because the Oslo-Newark flight is always on a little 757 with no premium economy. I dream of flying business class on that flight! But it's too small and too coveted to ever be available for mileage upgrades. Sad

Oh I know. Those of us who are DC based were spoiled. All of the united flights to Europe are on larger jets. Now that they're doing this route sharing we have the crappy Newark based 757s.

Have you ever had to refuel in Canada on the Oslo Newark route? I understand that in winter it happens pretty regularly because the 757 doesn't have sufficient fuel to fly the route in cold weather.

  • I've heard of it happening, but it hasn't happened to me. However... That freak October snowstorm hit NYC an hour earlier than expected -- while I was an hour out from Newark! We didn't need fuel, but we had to land in Montreal to sit and wait. Thankfully they serviced the lavatories in Montreal, because the 757's septic tank can't always handle an 8-hour flight, and I have been on that flight when the lavatories had to be closed!

(All in all, that night of the snowstorm I spent 15 hours on that little 757! Once we flew on to Newark, we had an hour holding and the three hours on the ground before we could get to the gate! Thankfully I had an exit row seat by the main cabin door, but even then! Way too small for more than 8 hours! The FAs were about to start a mutiny, because they wanted off just as bad as we did!)
