Fat Tues Plans?!

Anyone going on Tues for the start of Mardi Gras?  Party!!!

Being in the Midwest we don't have a ton of NOLA style restaurants around here, but there is one really great one H and I go to occasionally.  I'm so excited, I love the food {and drinks} and it will be even more fun since the restaurant is celebrating MG.  The owner/chef's mentor was Emeril so the food is amazing.  They will have a Zydeco Band and I like reg Blues a little better but I'm hoping they are good!

  • Hmm, I hadn't thought about that-- must look into it!

  • Wow, I hadn't even realized it was time for Mardi Gras!  The only NOLA style place we had around here shut down a couple of years ago.  :(  I miss the food!

We'll probably find someplace for a few drinks though.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • Hmmmmm. . . never thought about it. Well, I can look around to see if there are places celebrating Mardi Gras. Next time, I am heading to St. Louis (6 hours away) instead of heading all the way to New Orleans (13 hours away)

But I am going way over my head. I am sure there are places here in Chicago.

I'm in the Chicago suburbs area and I know of 4 places in the suburbs that have a really cajun themed menu.  Lombard, Westmont, Burbank and Plainfield.  I'm sure there are more in the actual city.  I'm going to the place in Burbank because the food is so good.  I went to the place in Westmont last year and it was so busy.  With reservations we waited an hour.

  • I'm from Mobile, AL, the birthplace of Mardi Gras! I am doing all my Mardi Gras stuff on Joe Cain Day (this Sunday) because I not only have to work but am also on call on Fat Tuesday. And I've already had more King Cake this carnival season than a girl should have in a lifetime, so nothing special for me, haha.

ETA:  What I'm doing Sunday is going downtown where our office has a VIP balcony reserved and watching the parades.  Hope to catch some good throws this year!

ETA2:  Mardi Gras Day (Fat Tuesday) is actually the end of Mardi Gras season, so Wednesday starts Lent.  Anyone giving anything up for Lent?

Shows how much I know...  I have never been to nola for MG and always thought fat tues was the start, while wondering why St. Louis does it the weekend before.  Well that explains it!

I do not give up anything for Lent, never have.
