Remember my post about crying in the gym? (long)

Sorry, this is a long one!   But totally laugh worthy!  I am laughing about it today that is for sure.

Last night I had another hormonal break down.  This time it had to do with running with "my 3 dad's" running group (it's what I call my dad and his 2 running friends).  I love running with these guys.

Anyway, tomorrow is my dad's birthday so I wanted to run with him.  I mentioned to him earlier in the week that I would like to get in about 18 miles.  We also have a half marathon coming up in March and the course director wanted a group to come out, run the course and give him some feedback.  My dad and his 2 friends, Mike & Dave, are signed up for this half as well as my local YMCA running group.  I told my dad about it and said to contact me later this week to let me know what he wants to do.

Last night I call him to find out what he has decided to do.  He told me he was going to meet Mike & Dave near the location and that they were going to park at Dave's sisters house which is about 1-2 miles out from the high school where we are to all meet.  The 3 of them would run to the high school, run the course with the group and then run back to Dave's sisters house.  I asked him what distance that would end up being and he said about 16.5 miles.  I said "oh well I was hoping to get in around 18 miles" thinking that he would tell me to join them.  He didn't.

We got off the phone and I broke down.  I started to cry.  really hard.  DH was freaking out thinking something was wrong.  When I could finally catch my breath I told DH "I thought my dad and I were going to run together on his birthday and he said he is meeting his friends before hand and didn't even invite me along".  I also said "I'd rather run with my dad, Dave & Mike and now they do not want me around since I am so slow now that I am pregnant. I have not ran with them in weeks".   LOL!!    Then I say to DH "and to top it all off, when he answered the phone and I asked what he was doing, he told me he was on line looking to switch his hotel for the Boston Marathon".  The marathon I will have to back out of.

I know they are training for a marathon and running much faster than I am so I am fine with not running with them during their training.  My pregnancy brain and hormones took my dad's plans and totally changed them around to where I decided they didn't want to run with me anymore.

I am something else!

  • Aww, that's rough.  But remember you are awesome for even CONSIDERING 18 miles at this point!  I'm seriously in awe of you.

    Pregnancy hormones are the pits.

  • pregnancy hormones are not to be messed with - I'm sorry you had such a rough night Sad

And are you 100% sure you're going to have to back out of Boston?

  • Thanks ladies.  I find it quite comical that I would cry over this stuff.  I am usually not a crier!

I am pretty sure Boston will be a no go.  It's ok.  I will get over it.  It just gives me something to strive for post-pregnancy!  I'll bust my butt and BQ again.

  • Awww. I can totally see how you could feel bummed about that, especially with pregnancy hormones. I definitely had my fair share of breakdowns (sadly, they continued for about a month afterwards as well).

BTW, you're not slow at all. You're still running faster than I am! I think you'll be amazed at how quickly you regain your speed also. I've been running again for five weeks and have dropped nearly a minute off of my pace for the same perceived effort.
