Star & other Disney girls

We're taking Julia to Disney over my Spring break & I wanted to pick your brain for tips. We have 3 day park hoppers & are planning on hitting all 4 parks. We're stayin at Port Orleans Riverside & have dining reservations for Coral Reef at Epcot, Chef Mickey's, Hollywood & Vine, and breakfast at O'Hana's. Any tips for taking a toddler or things to miss or not miss. We're planning on just riding rides that she can ride so that will cut down on some time at the parks. Any tips for watching the fireworks at Magic Kingdom? I'm fairly certain from past experience with my niece that she will not like the noise of the fireworks, especially near Cinderella's Castle. Is there anywhere special in MK to watch besides there? I've read that California Grill at the Contemporary is the best place to watch them & we thought about gettig reservations for dessert there one night to coincide with the fireworks. Has anyone done that & was it worth it? TIA for any advice!

Re: Star & other Disney girls

  • We did Disney for my 30th birthday, so no kid in tow.  But I really found the book the Unofficial Guide to Disney World very helpful in planning our trip.  It has info on everything - restaurants, order you should try to hit the rides, hotels, discounts, and info about kids.

We had dinner at the California Grill and tried to time our reservation so that we would be there just in time for the fireworks.  The problem is, everyone seated was waiting for the fireworks and didn't get up and then there was a mass exodus after the fireworks.  So we didn't get seated until after the fireworks and hung out at the bar and had an appetizer at the bar while watching the fireworksWe had some of the best sushi I have ever had at this restaurant.

Coral Reef at Epcot was nice too.  A little weird eating fish while watching them swim by though.

  • That sounds like a ton of fun!

I would definitely look into the Wishes Dessert Party at Tomorrowland Terrace.  I recently heard a rumor that California Grill was considering moving to a "no kids under 10" policy, and I have no idea if that was legitimate or not, so if you're really considering it definitely give WDW-DINE a jingle and ask.

Another option is noise canceling headphones if you think she will leave them on.

A third option is to take the monorail over to the Polynesian and watch them from the beach near Luau Cove.  Mom & Dad can grab a Mai Tai beforehand too, and everyone sits on the sand and watches them from afar.  You will also miss the mass exodus of the park this way.

If you are only riding rides she can go on, there will be the least for her to do at Hollywood Studios, so I'd split that day up with whichever park you want based on your dining reservations.

Some of our don't-miss favorites are:  Finding Nemo: The Musical at AK, The Seas with Nemo and Friends in Epcot (includes Finding Nemo ride),  Beauty & the Beast stage show at DHS if she likes stage shows, and basically there's a ton to do at MK.

    Have fun!!!  I'm jealous!

  • Thanks for your advice ladies! I'm going to download a copy of that book to read this weekend! And I will definitely check out the age requirements before making a reservation at California Grill. I can't wait to come back and share pictures!

  • On the fireworks, watching from the train station at MK is a little farther away and wouldn't be super-loud.  But I love Star's idea of watching from the beach at the Polynesian.  Their drinks are awesome, and if you can squeez it in, the Ohana restaurant is AMAZING.

There is a ton to do at MK, but one specific rec.  The Fantasyland area, which is where a lot of the rides for the small kids are, is always crazy crowded long lines.  If you are there on a day when they have extra magic hours in the morning, take advantage of that and hit Fantasyland immediately and you can burn through all of those rides in an hour or so (where normally the line for just one of them might be an hour!).
