I went running yesterday and I occasionally get what I think are shin splints. Basically my shins feel numb and it is somewhat painful. This happened during a short 2 mile run yesterday and when I stop it literally felt like my shins were cramping. It was extremely painful and after some stretching and icing it eventually stopped hurting. This seems a little extreme for shin splints any other ideas? I will add that I ran with my dog so my form was probably off yesterday if that makes a difference.
Re: Shin Splints?
First, do you need new shoes? I often start to get shin splints as my shoes run out of miles.
Second, try "duck walk" after your runs. Walk with your toes pointed in the air. Do not let them touch the ground (walk on your heels). Walk for 30-60 seconds like this. Walk normally for 30-60 seconds. Repeat 1 or 2 more times.
Bazinga!
