I'm travelling with my 6 month old on Sunday. He only drinks formula (powdered, not ready to feed). We prepare each bottle of formula when he needs it, because it spoils within 1-2 hours. I wanted to bring a small thermos of hot water, and a few bottled waters to make his bottles. I usually mix about 2 oz of hot water with the rest room temp water to make his formula warm.
Will TSA let me take bottled water through security if I tell them it's to make his formula? I tried looking on the TSA website, but it says you are allowed to take Formula, Breast Milk, and Baby Food. I wasn't sure if by "Formula" they meant already-mixed formula, and if they'd confiscate the bottled water I brought for my baby. Thanks.
Re: Taking Bottled Water for Formula through security?
since the issue is with liquids i assume they mean liquid formula in the info section.
how long is the flight? couldn't you just buy a bottle or 2 (or get one from the flight attendant) on the plane?
Dup
Two flights, one about 2 hours, and the other about 2.5 hours, but I wanted extra in case we got stuck somewhere. It's my first time travelling with the baby, so I didn't know what to expect. It may be an unnecessary concern, but I was worried about making his formula with a brand of water he's never had before and he not take to it well.
I've only seen nursery water in the gallon sizes. Did you bring a whole gallon of water through? I'm only wanting to bring like 30 oz.
I think you are turning this into an unnecessary concern - water is water. If you're really that concerned, go buy a bottle of Dasani or a bottle of Aquafina and see how he does before the flight.
Yeah, I agree. I highly doubt they will let you carry through a thermos of water. Just buy a bottle of water after you get through security. If you get stranded at an airport, they probably aren't going to run out of bottled water!
You are over thinking this. Buy it after security
Like PP suggested, buy the water after and mix then. When I had to warm bottles up (of either formula or BM) in the airport I would get a cup of steaming hot water from the coffee stand and stick the bottle in it.. I would try to plan giving baby the bottle on take off/landing to help with cabin pressure.
Maybe i'm not remembering correctly, but I thought you only had to toss it 1-2 hours after they started drinking from it. You can prepare it and then use it that day, several hours later (?). Check the label of your formula can.
