What type of fabric would you use...
to make these curtains?
Ruffle Curtains
She used flat sheets in the tutorial, but I can't find sheets in the color I want. The curtains are for my girls' room, and I need 6 panels so I want something that's not too expensive but sturdy. Any suggestions? Is it as simple as cotton solids?

Buying 100% cotton sheets and dying them would probably be your best bet if you want to go cheap. I got a bunch at Target for 75% off not too long ago- they were ~$2.50 for twins.
You'll need a lot of yardage if you want to go with a quilting cotton- and except for a limited selection of wider widths for quilt backing, you're going to run into needing even more because regular broadcloth won't be wide enough to cut the strips on the horizontal.
You'll need almost 16+ (because you'll need to do bottom hems) yards JUST for the backing of each one- even if you can get a decent quality broadcloth for $3 (which is tough with cotton prices being what they are these days), that's ~$50 and you don't even have ruffles yet.
Find a good deal on white cotton sheets (even check places like Ross/TJMax/Homegoods/Goodwill), buy some dye, and it will be much less expensive.
