Detroit to???

DH and I are looking at a long weekend in June or July. Chicago is an option of course since we live in the D. Just looking for any other places around $1500 and around 5 hours of travel time any thoughts ideas

Thanks

Re: Detroit to???

  • What do you like to do?

What about Sandusky, OH?  You could spend a day at Cedar Point and/or one of the several water parks or other fun places there.  Then perhaps you could take the ferry to Put-in-Bay and enjoy the island and the lake and stay there for a day or two.

This is probably only about 2 hours from Detroit and you would surely stay under $1500.

Otherwise, what about Niagara Falls?  If you drive through Ontario, I would guess that your drive would be 4-5 hours and would also be within your budget.

  • What about up north (like all the other Michiganders, LOL). Growing up, I've always enjoyed time at Mackinac Island and Petoskey. Per Google Maps, it's a 5 hour drive.
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.
  • I'm from the D. :)

I have always love Mackinac Island. It's so pretty and there are so many fun things to do on the island. You can also go up into the UP to Tahquamenon Falls, Sault St, Marie, and the state parks around there.

  • Saugatuck, Grand Haven, and Traverse City if you want to stay in Michigan.

    Otherwise, Niagara Falls and/or Toronto.

  • Cincinnati is fun and only 5 hours.  Niagra Falls.  Toronto.  Anywhere on lake MI.  Hocking Hills, OH was also nice for a long weekend and hiking.
