Coming out of the pregnancy closet...

... because I need some suggestions to help with the m/s. I am a little over 7 weeks pregnant and the nausea has been awful this week. Everyone at school has been asking if I am sick/tired, and I am not ready to come out to the real world yet, let alone my students.

What are some tricks for dealing with nasea? At this point with Wes, I was on summer break and had no other kids, so I just laid around a lot. I haven't puked with this pregnancy, which I am thankful for, but that came around 8.5 weeks with Wes, so I don't think I am in the clear yet. I am crossing my fingers to not get to that point!

Any suggestions would be great. Tums, saltines, and lemon drops aren't doing it for me like they did last time....

Re: Coming out of the pregnancy closet...

  • First, congratulations!!

Second, have you tried ginger chews?  Those and really sour candies helped me, along with sipping ginger ale.  I didn't have really bad nausea, but peanut butter crackers were easy to eat really fast between my classes, too, but that might not work if you have students with peanut allergies!

  • Congratulations!!

Sour Patch Kids were my saving grace.  Other than that, just eating all.the.time seemed to keep me from wanting to throw up.

  • No advice from me, but congrats!
  • Congratulations!
  • Congratulations!

Sour jelly bellys were the best thing I found...I kept a big bag on my desk at work and a smaller one in my purse.  I could eat 4 or 5 of them and it helped tremendously...plus they were tasty!

Seems like sour candy is the trend here.  Jolly Ranchers (blue or green mainly) helped me a lot.  I carried a big bag of them in my purse.  Eating small snacks every few hours helped a bit too.

  • Congrats!!  Talk to your OB first - but what saved me was a Vitamin B6 tablet and a 1/2 tablet of Unisom taken daily.   It really helped.   And no :)  the 1/2 tablet of Unisom doesn't make you more tired.

    SO Exciting!!

  • Congrats!  The Unisom/B6 combo is what worked OTC with Sophia.

  • Wow! Congrats!! :o)

I second the ginger ale....it really helped with my 2nd pregnancy. I thought for sure everyone was going to know I was pregnant because who the heck drinks ginger ale but it sure helped. It is hard to be at school all day when you are feeling crummy.

  • Congrats!

I was sick and throwing up a lot. Nothing helped until I got a prescription for Zofran. I'm hoping yours won't be that bad, but if it does get bad definitely ask your dr about a prescription. Good luck!

  • Congrats!

The only thing that helped me was eating small meals every hour and half or so.  Keep a little bit of food in my stomach helped me so much.

  • The only thing that did it for me was the B6 and Unisom combo, without fail, round the clock.  Plus ginger ale with lemon, or lemon Gatorade, ice cold.  And eating a little all the time.  I think Chance grew on cheesey hashbrowns and bacon and rootbeer for breakfast every work day from week 8 until he was born. :)  But if I didn't eat it, I got sick.

    Congrats!

  • Congratulations! How exciting! Obviously I never really got control of my nausea with Brody's pregnancy but with Ella B6/Unisom worked well for me. Zofran did help control the vomiting to an extent but sounds like that hasn't hit you yet (I hope it stays away!)

  • Congrats!!!

Lemon drops and ginger helped.  In the end, Zofran was the only thing that kept me from tossing my cookies.

  • Congratulations! I don't have any real advice as my nausea wasn't horrible, but eating often and sucking on hard candy was definitely helpful for me.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions and congrats. We are cautiously excited. It's early but giving Wes a sibling is very exciting!

I am trying sour candy today and am having a better day overall. Yesterday was rough, but DH took most of the kid duty and let me rest quite a bit.
