Jefferson Womens Medical Specialities

Alright ladies, who goes here?   I hope you'll let me b!tch for a moment.  I had a TERRIBLE experience this morning and won't be going back.  I saw an RE there who couldn't work a computer and seriously had no clue what she was talking about.  I've had PCOS for the better over 9 years and I could talk circles around this woman.  She also told me how fat I was about 15 times (I got the point on the 2nd time, tyvm).  My mind was blown.  I waited an hour and a half to get from waiting room to doctor (even arrived 10 mins early for paperwork).  Someone was in the room they wanted me to go in, so the doctor kicks the patient out and she's like "Ok, this room is fine. She didn't sit on the thing.  I'll get you a new gown just in case."  Girl came into take my blood pressure and it "didn't work". Said she'd come back and never did.  Then the doctor comes in for the exam portion (we had spent 20 mins in her office prior getting background and her trying to figure out how to work a computer) and she's like so what was your height and weight?  I was like, I have no clue no one did it.  So the doctor proceeds to do it, but doesn't know how to work the scale (it's a digital) so that takes another 5 mins.  Then's she's all "surprised" when I wasn't lying about my weight.  "Ohhh look at that. You were right."  Yes, lady I know my weight... why would I lie to a doctor?  Then she does a quick exam and gives me bloodwork paperwork, yada yada. She *kind* of talked a plan which is where I assumed it would go, but one of the meds she wanted to put me on gave me a really bad reaction in the past and she completely disregarded it and kept knocking my primary doc as if she didn't know what she was doing.  HELLO she's one of the LEADING researchers on PCOS in the whole freaking country and she doesn't know what she's doing? She couldn't even pronounce a bunch of drugs I was saying I had taken in the past for various things relating to endocrinology.

I'm sure there are other great docs at the practice and I just ended up with the sh!t end of the stick, but after all of the office confusion I just can't do it again.  It was such a waste of my time and I'm kicking myself only because I do have a really amazing internist/primary doctor at Drexel who I've been seeing for the better part of 6 years, but I thought I wanted to deliver at Jeff and would need to start going to a practice there.

Anyway, if anyone wants to recommend an RE please let me know.

  • What a horrible appointment! My friend has PCOS and she went to a practice that delivered at Penn.  she liked them, but I don't know for sure if it was an RE.  I can find out and let you know.  She end up having twin boys so whatever they did helped her.

  • Wow, that sucks!  I would call or send an email to someone there and let them know how you were treated

I went there when I lived in the city and delivered both kids at Jeff. Fortunately I never had a problem at all with the office or the docs.  This makes me sad that you were treated this way, because I always had positive experiences, especially with L&D at Jeff

  • Is there a reason you arent going back to THE pcos doc? I assume you are trying to get knocked up? Because she was ready to work with me and make a plan to get pregnant but I got babied on my own.

Yeah, I totally was not thinking the whole thing through.  I love Sherif, she's amazing.  This doc was totally trash talking her and different things she's tried with me over the years. I was like um, last time I checked she's the co-director of the nationally recognized Center for PCOS not to mention established the country's first academic program.  Last time I saw her, I was like you can't deliver my phantom child... we laughed and I think knowing that I didn't want to deliver at Hahnemann, I thought it was best for me to establish a relationship with whatever person was going to be my OB since my medical history is long and always puzzling to docs.  She can totally help me. I guess I just didn't imagine her having time to do all of the monitoring and stuff I might need with the "help" so she'd send me to an RE at Drexel and then I would end up having to deliver there (which scared me and I totally told that).   But now I realized that I can't stray from her because it is a scary place out there in doctor world!  I already left her a message!  Fingers crossed for me ladies and thanks for the concern, I appreciate it.  I'm seething over this appointment and what a clown this lady was!  I wish I would have spoke up, but I sat there in horror.  I should have did the math when I looked up her credentials and realized she was going to be super old too.  UGH!!

  • She is actually a board member at the Bryn mawr birth center too. She Was excited for me to go there.  you will develop a bond with the practice that delivers but for now don't stress making that relationship work when you already are comfortable.
  • I don't have anything to add but I'm sorry that was your experience. I probably would have been really upset too.
