Poll: How much did you put down?
Granted I know that at least 20% is desirable but not always possible... I am just curious?[Poll]
Re: Poll: How much did you put down?
3.5% FHA here.
I don't, necessarily, think there's anything wrong with putting less than 20% down.
Cost of living can make a huge difference. We would have had to seriously save for at least 5 years to get to 20% (of prices today, assuming home prices don't go up at all). In HCOL, you'd easily need a 6 figure savings to put down 20% on an average-sized home.
We could have put significantly more than 3.5% down, but felt better about keeping the cash in the bank. 2 years in, and it's worked out perfectly so far.
There are a lot of factors to consider, and as long as 3.5% is not ALL of the money you have, I think it's definitely reasonable.
your poll is worded to give odd results...
regardless, we put 15% down.
