So I'm a little disappointed

I keep going round and round on a new color for our in-law suite, now that we've added a doorway and have to repaint.

I posted pix on D&R for advice, and they told me, "Beige, taupe, or gray"

Seriously? I have enough beige, taupe, and gray, TYVM

LOL, a pale aqua is exactly what I think we've decided on! Good taste ;)

  • Avacado green!

I saw it in a house we looked at and was obsessed with it.

  • Dr L what are you going to do with the space?  Will you actually have in-laws or parents moving in?
  • That is disappointing for D&R. I would've expected more from them!

When we reno-ed the kitchen in our last house, we painted the walls blue and I was obsessed with the color. At some point I want to put it somewhere in the new house.

    Here's a picture of it:

     image

It's Benjamin Moore and I think the color is called Aquarius. I also like the avocado green idea- I saw a house with it and it looked amazing even though I would never think to use it it my own house.

Let us know what you decide! That's a great space for guests!

Not moving in. It's just a place for them to stay. It has its own kitchen, 1/2 bath, and stackable W/D. The plan is to convert a closet into where the W/D go, and put a stand-up shower in the bathroom.

It also has its own separate entrance and private deck :)

  • With the white cabinets and the dark furniture, I think you could go with just about any color. I the response you received on D&R is one of the things that bugs me about the board... in general, if it doesn't look like a Pottery Barn catalog, so many of the women on the board won't like it. You were clear that you liked color, and yet they still suggested taupe and gray! Really people??? Think about what the "client" wants!!!!

I think I would use the celadon color as the main color for both the kitchen and the living space, then use the eucalyptus for the wall where the bed is. I know "accent walls" are a touchy subject, but in this space I think it would help anchor that bed and define the sleeping area. I would try to find some white accents including some milk glass accessories.

    Have fun with the space!

  • Ginger, this is why I need you on D&R more often!

    I found this color yesterday:

    image

I'm sure this is going to look different on everyone's monitor ;)

DH liked it, because on the wall it looks like it has mishmosh of undertones in it, so it's going to go with just about anything. Still thinking of an accent wall behind the bed, but we have time. The problem is that the room (during the day) is on the dark side, with low ceilings, so we have to keep it light or it's rather cave-like.

I can't wait to start painting again :)

I love that color! My thought on dark spaces is kind of odd... My condo has very little natural light, so we actually went with darker colors and just put lights around the space to brighten things up. Lighter wall colors in dark spaces often get washed out. I also think darker wall colors complement furniture and art better than really light colors.

I think what's hanging me up is the quality of the light from night to day. It gets indirect natural light during the day, which just seems to suck light out of the room. At night when we have the overhead lights on, I can totally see going jewel-tone. But during the day it just seems too much.

Hopefully I found the happy medium. Bonus: there's some blue in the kitchen countertops in there, which will go nicely with the paint color
