What shoes does your DH wear traveling

My DHs feet hurt easily when walking a lot, he needs wide shoes with support. He is looking for something beyond sneakers that he wears to the gym. Any suggestions?

Re: What shoes does your DH wear traveling

  • My husband has had lots of foot problems (he has plantar fasciitis) and swears by these shoes:

You can wear them with jeans or even khakis and they still look decent.  He also buys Dr. Scholl's gel heel cups to wear with them. We went to Chicago last year and walked EVERYWHERE but his feet didn't bother him at all.

    HTH!

  • he wears a leather walking shoe - either Ecco or Mephisto. DH has about 2 pairs of non-athletic shoes, so i don't mind spending more on the ones that he does have.
  • new balance 993s (i also wear these and they come in wide), puma easy rider III, or sketchers. he said the pumas took a long time to break in but they are the most comfortable after the NB sneakers.

i'd look into clark's for less of a sneaker. do you have nordstrom near you? their return policy is excellent so he could try a few out. i think keens run wide too but not 100% sure about that.

  • I don't know if they come in wide sizes or not, but H and I both always wear Merrell hiking shoes.  They're the comfiest either of us have found.

  • Both H & I like Clark's Wave shoes for walking/touring.  More comfortable than sneakers, really supportive for walking.  Good traction as well (slick cobblestone type surfaces).   Not super fashion, but I think they look fine w jeans/khaki type outfits.

  • His everyday shoes, which are Vans most of the year, or Birkenstocks in the summer.  Occassionly a dressier pair of shoes if something we are doing requires dressing up.

I'm way too picky about my own shoes (and my need for orthotics) to dictate that his footware not appear "touristy."  :)

  • Merrells cross trainers.

  • My DH worn Teva sandles or Merrell hiking boots on our last 6 week trip. I like my Nike Free's, they're light and fit in my orthotics.
