Best packing advice for Alaska cruise.
We will be going on an Alaska cruise May 1st -8th. We will be going out early for a few days in Seattle. I am stressing because I really do not know how to pack. We will be doing excursions like zip lining, glacier hiking and dog sledding. What do you recommend in Seattle, on the ship and off the boat?
Re: Best packing advice for Alaska cruise.
Socks!!
I went to Seattle in early-May once with just cute flats (work trip) and my feet were cold all friggin week. I ended up buying socks at CVS just to have warm feet at night. And that was just my mid-Atlantic toes. I would imagine Florida toes would be even colder!
We did Alaska in mid-May (actually, 10 days after the work trip to Seattle), and mostly wore jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies/rain jacket. We had warm hats and gloves for kayaking and Glacier Bay, but the rest of it was just layers.
gloves, a scarf, and beanie. We loved walking around on the deck in the morning after breakfast, and it was definitely chilly (and that was in August).
I was thankful I took a light waterproof jacket. I wore sweaters and turtlenecks underneath, so it didn't feel as bulky as a heavy jacket.
Alaska is truly gorgeous!
Yes, I am from Florida but have been to many cold destinations but not necessarily a cruise. I wasn't even thinking flip flops at all
Thanks for all the input. I do have a rain jacket so I didn't even think about that. That will be the first thing packed
I just want to be comfortable in all the areas of our trip. We are so excited!
Oh, the rain jacket is a MUST! I can't tell you how much it rained in Ketchikan. I went in July and I'm going in July again this summer. It wasn't really cold. (Okay, Glacier Bay was chilly, but we stood on the balcony for hours.) That being said, it will probably be cooler in May.
I pretty much lived in jeans, a long sleeve shirt, a t-shirt over that and a light fleece jacket. That's it. I didn't need sweaters or long underwear or anything anybody told me I needed to pack.
It can get windy on deck -- so that's why I carried a jacket. It wasn't really the chill but the wind.
You are gonna love Alaska!!!
