Let's be honest ya'll... I kinda suck at this SAHM gig. The whole keeping a house and fixing proper meals part anyway. I like to think I rock as a mom.
Anyway I should be picking up hours at my job next month (holy cow - let's hope this go round works out better than five months ago!) so we really need to get a handle on meal planning. Plus J and I are both tired of scrounging for last minute dinner ideas for all of us or ending up w/ take out at 8:00. Ugh. (don't get me wrong - our "take out" is never fast food, at least, we're eating well but still - it's tiresome financially).
So J got on my butt about meal planning. I joined e-meals. Got my first week's plan, set up a shopping list and was ready to go. Plus ya'll - we'll be saving so much money by actually having a PLAN. J takes a look at it before I had a chance to get to the store and was all: that's a gross meal plan - those dishes sound gross. *head desk* I was all: ohmygosh-we-cannot-eat-jambalaya-or-pizza-every-single-night-that-is-not-a-meal-plan!!!)@(*!(_&*$(&!)$&
/endrant
Husbands suck. Whatever - I'm going forward with this. He will eat what I cook or... well, he wont eat. Good god, I sound like my mother. Ack!
Re: meal plan fail
I'm usually the pickier one about what meals to make. Especially since I'm the one doing the cooking. But we do make our meal plan together, because I hate having to do it alone.
Kudos to you for making the plan, and hopefully your H won't hate the meals you decided on once they are actually made and in front of him.
I do know that meal planning makes shopping much easier and quicker. So good luck!
My Profile
I would tell him to shut it. If he wants to plan and cook, he can pick the meals!
I write ours on a white out board in the kitchen and no, I don't give my husband any say.
i plan our meals too...mostly bc i'm pickier when it comes to what i want and when. usually i'll double check with H about waht i'm making to make sure it's something he wants for leftovers, but other then that...i pretty much make stuff i know he'll like and save the stuff that he doesnt like for when he's out of town/not here for dinner.
if he was pulling that crap though, he'd have a rude awakening. if he ever whines about what we're having i tell him he's welcome to cook his own meals!
Try suggesting him to mealplan for you and then you can hit the grocery. If he's the pickier one, then he should be doing most of the work.
I try to meal plan too. But then I can't think of anything new or weekday-worthy that I want to try and make. I did hit the grocery this weekend with meal planning in mind but I ended up only buying stuff I needed for lunch this week. Oh well.
I agree, if he doesn't like your plan, he should be making suggestions!
I can't meal-plan to save my life! I literally don't know why I can't plan in advance, but I'm usually scrounging up a sandwich or pasta. It's pathetic.
As you get into doing this you'll realize you making the meal plans and going and buying the stuff will become a thing where you don't even mention what you're making haha.
I usually get our weekly ad on Tuesdays (and hopefully will be SAH this time around) and hope to learn couponing but none the less I keep 100 in mind for the budget and if the deals they have that week don't sound appealing then I don't harp on it and may go over budget because I know the next week I'll be under.
But I've really learned some new meals like cornish game hens...y'all they are realy easy to make and are so good! I normally try and not tell him until I go to the store but if he does ask before I will give him the entire week break down and if he wants to change one thing I will but otherwise he just deals with it.
Normally if he ends up not liking it I don't either and I remember not to cook it again haha I don't think they realize how much goes into meal planning, shopping (if H goes he'd spend about 60 more because he doesn't know how to shop), and then you know cooking haha
