Cleaning the Ice Maker?

Can it be done?  I rent and the fridge/freezer came with the apartment so I wouldn't want to try anything too risky.  My dad thought maybe I could cycle some vinegar or bleach through, but we talked through it and if it won't freeze it won't ever really cycle through, right? Plus, don't want to risk getting bleach in anything we end up using!  Any thoughts?

I already use the the Arm & Hammer baking soda Fridge & Freezer packs, but the ice is still kind of stale and icky tasting.

TIA!

Re: Cleaning the Ice Maker?

  • All you have to do is remove the tray that holds the ice and clean it well with a bleach/water mixture, while the tray is out of the way, you can wipe down the other exposed parts of the ice maker...then return the tray.
  • I cleaned all the exterior parts when we first moved in.  Sorry, I should have clarified.  I am really anal about sanitizing everything when I first move in to any rental place.
  • Can you change the filter on the water supply line? It should be on the back of the fridge. You can buy a new one at any home improvement store.
  • I never would have thought or known to do that.  Good tip, thanks!
  • Where do you find the filter for water supply? I don?t seen any on mine... all i do is just clean the exterior never went to the back of fridge? lol!
