Stupid Vampire Diaries Question
Why doesn't Elijah have an accent like the rest of the Originals? Have they ever mentioned it?
Re: Stupid Vampire Diaries Question
He has a slight accent, right? Not as strong as Klaus and Rebekah but it's still somewhat detectable. I'm trying to think of his voice and I really can't recall it.
I would presume it's because they're super old vampires who have spent a variety of time in different parts of the world. Is that too logical for VD? Lol. Klaus and Rebekah were together for a long time (albeit, it was in Chicago so why their British accents are so strong is beyond me). Didn't Elijah leave Klaus after Katherine became a vampire? Maybe he spent time in so many different places that his accent is diluted.
I don't think they ever mentioned it though. That's my theory.

I tend to let that kind of thing go because I've met/heard real people who have/haven't lost their accents despite significant time spent in other countries. Some people pick up accents quickly, others never do.
For example, I feel like Jean Reno has a really strong French accent, but he was a teen when he moved to France from North Africa, so shouldn't his accent have been pretty set as Moroccan? And if not, he has been a world traveler for at least the last 20 years, keeps homes in LA and (I think) Japan, speaks four languages, was married to a Polish woman, and now a British woman, but none of that lessened his accent?
Madonna started sounding British after living in London for a year (although that may have been purposeful)
Elijah's character could also be covering his accent on purpose for whatever reason, and the others don't care enough to do that.
Or it could just be that the actor playing Elijah is from Canada and the actor playing Klaus is British.
I thought he did have one?
His may not as strong though because he's been living all these years...

I thought he had basically been living in America basically this whole time? Also
Rebekah was dead for 90 years so that could have something to do with her keeping hers?
No, remember he was with Klaus in England when they were with Katherine for the ritual?
