Need help/advice....What am I doing wrong? (long)

Here's my story:  I was 230 pounds when I got pregnant with DS (he's 4 now) after I had him, I had the Lap Band and lost a good 40 pounds.  Then started doing bootcamps and working out and lost another 40 or so pounds.  We went on vacation and the flight caused my band to swell a little and I couldn't eat.  Had some saline taken out, and got out of my strict workout routine and gained about 20 pounds back and then found out I was expecting again.  I was not able to workout during pregnancy and gained about 30 pounds total.  She is now 6 months old and I am STILL not down to pre-preg weight, I'm still 5 pounds away.  I've been working out, although not as hard as before, since I was given the okay by the dr.  I was working out maybe twice a week until about 2 weeks ago.  I started doing turbo fire, eating well, getting in my steps...I've been wearing a bodybugg to help me with my burn and tracking my food.  According to that I am supposed to be eating 1800 and burning 2800 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week.  I never quite make the burn, but I also never quite eat that many calories so I always have my target deficit.  I have also been drinking shakeology that came with my turbo fire, and thats supposed to help with the weight loss.

I have not had my lap band filled since having the baby.  I know it would help me lose the weight, but a part of me wants to see if I can do it without it.  I am just getting so frustrated because I have been the same weight, fluctuating back and forth, practically since I started wearing my bodybugg again after having my daughter.  I've got about 40 pounds I'd like to lose and I don't know what I'm doing wrong!  There were about 5 girls that started this turbo fire challenge and 2 of them have already lost almost 10 pounds each and both teach zumba so I know they are active.  What can I change??

  • I don't have any clue what Shakeology is, but are you eating enough?  If you are burning 2,800 calories a day it sounds like you are working out an hour or so a day.  Are you breast feeding?   I know that can impact weight loss and the calories you need.  I would try and eat actual full meals and see how you feel.  Limit the processed foods and eat more protein and fruits and veggies.
  • I agree that nursing can impact fat loss. 6 months is still prime breast feeding time if formula isn't being used and you're just getting into solids. How's your sleep and stress level? If you're getting crummy sleep and you're overly stressed, you might want to get those things under control to get better results from your other efforts.

  • I would bet money on it that you still have sugar and grains in your diet? I was amazed at my simple weight loss from just removing these two terrible culprits. When you read labels, it's shocking how much sugar is in everything and wheat too. BUt instead of just focusing on wheat, focus on grains entirely.

Try to eliminate wheat and sugar from your diet for a week and you will feel big withdrawl effects, headache, night sweats, etc but I promise you will feel amazing after and you will probably lose a ton of weight the first week. Why, b/c your blood sugar is stabilizing and you are not eating all that crap (processed food).

I also highly recommend the book WHEAT BELLY -- it's really good. I had NO IDEA how bad wheat made today is -- and we are not talking white bread here, we are talking "Healthy Whole Grain Bread" -- such a scam to Americans!

  • Shakeology is a nutrional shake offered by beachbody.com, and it came with my challenge pack with the turbo fire.  Its VERY good!  Anyway, I am not breastfeeding and I think I am eating enough.  3 meals and 2 small snacks a day.  Eating more fruitsd and veggies, and trying to cut back on the processed foods.  I get about 6 1/2 hours of sleep a night, and stress level is....meh.  I mean it's stressful with a 4year old attitude and a needy 6 month old, and I work weekends...so other than being stressed about not losing the weight, I don't think I have a high stress level.

  • Yes, I do have sugar and grains.  I eat whole grain or whole wheat whenever I eat bread.  And sugar is, well, everywhere.  I don't eat a ton of sweets.  But I do have coffee every couple of days with some creamer, and I do have a sweet tooth that I give into occasionally...but nothing like I used to.  I've been working on the processed foods, but I'd be a liar to say that I cut them out all together.

  • Challenge yourself for one week to cut out all sugars and grains -- it's only a week. It's hard to do as we grew up eating bread for lunch (sandwiches, etc) but instead load up on protein and veggies. Google sugar detox or grain detox, it's touch to do but best to do cold turkey. Good luck!

If it was the secret to weight loss you wouldn't need to ask for help.  Personally, I would ditch the shakes and eat real food.  Try adding more protein to your diet.

  • This will help:

-reset your expectations for 1/2 pound to one pound of weight loss per week. 2 pounds is too aggressive for most people. The less you have to lose, the slower it comes off.

-you are not burning 1000 calories/hour working out most likely. It's probably more like 400-500. Readjust your caloric intake.

-you aren't eating enough. You need to calculate your BMR and then eat back the calories you burn exercising

-ditch the shakes and fake stuff. Start "eating clean" (lots of good references out there). Get rid of all of the processed food in the house.

-cut back on your refined sugar. Get rid of sugary cereals, ice cream, candy, cakes, etc.

So do you not eat fruit (or dairy)? Or are you talking about refined sugars, becuase they're two totally different things...
