high weight limit car seats

We just realized that William is getting close to the weight limit of our carseat, and probably close on the height as well.  Our Evenflo Symphony only goes up to 40 lbs.  We need one that goes higher.  I love the Easy Latch handle things our seat has-makes it so easy to transfer between the cars!  Anyone want to recommend their seat?  Bonus points for a comfy seat for 10 hour rides and able to fit in a compact car-I drive a Corolla!

Thanks!

Re: high weight limit car seats

  • We love our Evenflo Triumph and I know they have increased their weight limits to now forward face to 65 pounds.  Sophia has regularly sat in three different FF seats and always says the Triumph is the most comfy.  It doesn't have the easy latch, but it is really easy to install and tightens nicely.  I also love the knob to adjust on the side so I can make sure I've got her in nice and tight.

ETA:  Okay, I didn't read about the small car part.  It fit easily in my Contour, which is a pretty small car, but I'm also short so the seat was pretty far forward.  You could always go to BRU to try one out, though, or come over for a playdate and try ours!

  • i LOVE our radians - we have a 65 and an 85. they are narrow so fit great in a small car, have the tallest shoulder straps i could find, and go up to 65/80 pounds with 5-point harness.

we use them for Oli front-facing, it seems too tall for RF in our car and Finn still fits in his RF seat, but will switch to a Radian when he outgrows his current seat.

when we bought ours it was made by Sunshine kids, but either the name changed or it's a new company, Diono. http://www.amazon.com/Diono-RadianR100-Convertible-Seat-Stone/dp/B005MQR794/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329430117&sr=8-1

  • We have a Graco Nautilus and like it. Not terribly expensive and it should last us many years!  I spoke extensively with a friend who's a carseat tech and this was her recommendation once you factor in everything: weight limits, cost, etc.

We love the Triumph too. It fits fine in my Jeep, which has a pretty small back seat, so I think it would fit in your car just fine. My only concern in recommending this is that I don't think it will work very long for William height-wise. Nicholas only has a few inches of headroom left and I believe William is a little taller.

  • after some searching, Evenflo makes the "Sure Latch" on the Triumph 65 and something else 65.  We still have about 5 pounds to go before we hit the limit, so hopefully that well get us to the next BRU trade in event, and we can get the new seat then.  FYI, those sure latch things are amazing!  It takes about 3 seconds to install a seat in a car with the lower LATCH hooks with the sure latch things.
